Selene's POV "Shadow Pack? Where is that? Am I still in Howling Hills?” All the questions that popped into my head, I said it out loud. "Hey....calm down, let's start with your name" the man who said his name is Lucian said. "Sorry for that. Hi, my name is Selene" I faked a laugh. He looked at me for a while before he responded "Welcome Selene. About your questions....yes we are still in Howing Hills state and we are a new pack that was recently formed." "Ohhh.... I think I have heard of you guys.... the elders don't like you guys " I responded. "I guess so" he smiled. I went silent for a while as my eyes roamed around the forest. "So....where are you exactly, the border?" "Kind of. We keep our location a secret to avoid the elders finding it and taking it down" he said. "That's one way to put it. Anyways, I should be on my way." I turned to leave but then I paused, realizing something. "Lost?" I heard his voice and I put my head back in shame, making him laugh "You don't have to go now, you can stay for a while and later we can send you back to your pack.". "Oh thank you!" I replied. "Don't thank me yet. Our pack has a way of rejecting new intakes" I looked at him for an explanation. "Don't worry, I think you will do just fine." He began to walk to the other side of the forest. Everywhere seemed calm. After a ten-minute walk, we stopped in the middle of the forest where two giant trees stood side by side. "Welcome!" I heard him say and he walked through the trees and disappeared right before my eyes surprising me. "What the.... hey where did you go?" I screamed as I got scared. "Walk through the trees like I just did" I heard him scream back. "Wonderful..... First Nyx, now magical beings." I said to myself as I closed my eyes and walked through the trees. "Am I through?" I asked with my eyes still closed. He laughed again. "Yes you are, you can open your eyes now." I opened it slowly and what I saw left me speechless. It was a little beautiful little town. The town had houses on top of trees and the bottom of the trees too. "Welcome to the Shadow Pack!" Lucian said, he whistled, and a horse galloped to his side. "Come let me show you around!" He stretched his hands which I took, as he helped me mount on top of the horse. After we got on, he kicked the horse and we were on our way. We passed through the marketplace, the town was more beautiful with people going about their business. Wow, this is like a garden.” I said. “I guess it is. The town was founded by me and two other Alphas. We take in people who are homeless, sick, or cast out from different packs and we give them a home—-the garden gives us a home.” As we passed the town, we got to the residential area where people mostly lived, and at the far end was the biggest house I had seen in the pack. The horse stopped at the entrance and Lucian helped me down. The pack house!” He said and I nodded still short of words. We went in and the servants bowed to him in respect. He just smiled at them. Let's go to the meeting room, my brothers will be there!” Lucian said as we walked up the stairs. After a few minutes, we got to a door, which he pushed open. The room was filled with bookshelves, at the far end was a long table with three king-size chairs. Then the other end had three long couches with a center table and a rug. Two huge men were seated on the couch, one had a book to his face while the other cleaned his sword. They both looked up at me and I could see surprise in their faces but the one with the book had his reaction gone almost immediately. “Lucian? Who is this?” The one with the sword spoke. This is Selene, I found her close to the border.” Lucian introduced me “Hi,” I said, my voice low. “Ohh…you look pretty.” The one with the sword complimented me. “Thank you…..” Lucian cleared his throat “So these are the other two rulers of the shadow pack Alpha Darius Thorn, a calculating strategist with ties to the supernatural council, and Alpha Zephyr Nightshade, a mysterious, solitary wolf who controls the northern territories.” Ohhh…… Nice to meet you….emmm” I paused not knowing what to call them. “You can call me Darius.” The sword man smiled and I returned it. “Hey, Darius….. and what should I call you?” I turned to Zephyr. He ignored me for a while, as he dropped his book with a bored look. “Zeph…..Anyways nice hair.” He said, making me confused as my hair never really stood out. I ran my hand through my hair which I found out was styled, and bringing it forward my eyes widened. “Silver!” I yelled, my eyes going back and forth on the three strong wolves. "Whoa, easy," Lucian said, his voice calm and soothing. "It's okay, Selene. You didn't know your hair was this color?” I took a deep breath, trying to calm down. But my heart was still racing. "What's going on with my hair?" I asked. Lucian smiled and took a step closer to me. "We'll figure it out, okay? But first, let's get you settled in and rested. You've had a long day." I nodded. Lucian asked to follow him, and I stayed behind him as he led me out of the meeting room. We walked down a long hallway, and Lucian stopped in front of a door. "This is your room," he said, opening the door. I stepped inside, looking around at the cozy room. There was a big bed in the center of the room, and a fireplace in the corner. "Make yourself at home," Lucian said, smiling at me. "You're safe here, Selene. We'll take care of you." I nodded. Lucian seemed kind and genuine, and I felt like I could trust him. "Thank you," I whispered. Lucian smiled and turned to leave. "Get some rest, Selene. We'll talk more in the morning." I nodded, watching as he closed the door behind him. I took a deep breath and felt relieved. I was safe, at least for now. And I had a feeling that my life was about to change in ways I couldn't even imagine.
