As the events of the story ended, I returned to reality with a shocking revelation. The journal that I hold belongs to this demon, Cyrus, who defeated his monstrous friend and prevented the destruction of his kind. His friend's warning to take vengeance against his descendant disturbed me. If I heard and saw everything correctly, Alexander's descendants were his initial targets, but somehow, how did he discover that this knight, Arthur, could have been Cyrus' offspring? But this confused me further. If I knew who Arthur was, why not kill himself? Why use the King to take his vengeance? It doesn’t make any sense. I hope finding the wizard's diary can answer some of our questions. It wasn’t long after I heard Carl call out for me. I tucked the book inside my jacket and returned to our meeting point. On the way to the meeting point, I couldn’t stop thinking about Cyrus. He was an interesting demon, not like the one I have encountered or learnt about. He was strong but noble and had honor. He risked everything to preserve his life, protect his king from being removed.
But what made me interested is, why leave everything in search of these gems? Could this amulet be one of the gems that is stuck on my body? But I wonder if he is truly alive right now, living somewhere not knowing that his so-called friend has returned? I guess I know everything once we defeat this monster.
As I reached our meeting point, I noticed that Alexander was looking much better than before, but he still needed to be careful. I was the first to break the ice. “Any luck finding the book?” I asked.
“Negative, we found a variety of books, but nothing related to the wizard,” Finn said, disappointed.
“Neither me but some of the books I found were missing pages or weren’t readable any more, but nothing else,” Carl added.
We were discussing where to look next when I was interrupted by the princess speaking. “The wizard's diary is at the top of the left staircase,” she said. “Shhh!” I shouted to my friends. “She’s talking to me!”
“You need to give your blood to open the box,” said Princess Rose. My friends could see that I was listening to something but gave no signs that they could hear the voice, too.
“Is that her? The princess?” asked Carl.
“What’s she saying?” asked Finn.
“The princess said, ‘The wizard’s diary is at the top of the left staircase,’ and I had to ‘give my blood’ to open the box,” I told them.
“Poor soul. Her life ended horribly enough but being trapped with that demon all these centuries—it must be awful,” said Alex with sympathy.[ 1]
“The fact that she is trying to help despite what she has gone through, I would say she is a remarkable person.” Carl said proudly, with Finn and Alexander agreeing with him.
“Yeah, she might have a hard life, forced to live with that monster and suffer with every soul that was taken” I said. Then I brightened. “But once we’ve found a way to kill this creature of darkness, the princess can finally be reunited with her loved ones in heaven and be at peace.” I wasn’t sure where the confidence came from, but I was sure we could help her, if we could just get our hands on the diary.
“We should head out now, we don’t know how long the shiel will keep us safe.” said Finn. We rushed up the stairs. At the top, there was a box on a stand. “Well, that was easy,” Carl said, rushing toward the box.
“Wait Carl! Something is not right” I shouted at him, but it was too late. He reached his hand toward the box. When it was about ten centimeters away, we heard a crackling noise, and his hand bounced away as if there were an invisible barrier. He clutches his hand in pain while rushing toward him.
“Are you hurt?” Finn asked, checking his hand.
“ Not just shocked, but nothing else,” he said calmly.
“It seems to be protected by another one of those magic spells,” I said.
“Derek, remember what she said about your blood?” said Finn. “I bet you can open the box somehow.”
It was a strange box. There was no keyhole, just a circle scraped into the top with a tiny hole in its center. Sprouting from the hole were the kind of vines you might find covering an abandoned house. I looked at the hole and thought about what the princess said. I pulled out my knife and slashed the heel of my left hand. I let my blood drip into the hole. As I did, the vines started to move in a beautiful, sinuous way, and the lid of the box opened.
It seemed to be filled with a bright blue mist. Even though my hand was in pain, I thrust it into the mist and felt around until I found a book, which I pulled out. The Wizard’s diary! We found it!
“Alright, now that is done, where to next?” Alexander asked.
Before I could answer, I heard the sound of banging at the door and soon later the crashing of wood. I looked from the top to see those demon knights coming along along with those imp creatures.
“I thought we were protected! How are those things coming through?” Finn exclaimed in shock.
“Unfortunately, the spell protecting the diary must have been what was keeping the demons out of the library, for as soon as I had the book in my hand, the spell broke, allowing those monsters to enter.” It wasn’t long before we heard the roar of the demon.
“Now I will get you, you annoying little insects,” screeched the evil demon. I looked around for some other means of escape. The ground below the windows was too far for us to jump safely, and there was no door near us and those things were coming in fast. Frustrated, I slammed the box shut and pounded the lid with my fist, crying, “No! it can’t end like this” I yelled.
Soon I heard a soft whisper “No it won’t, I wouldn’t allow it.” That voice!? It belongs to the princess. Within seconds, a white light flashed above and the demon that was charging at us vanished before us. The demon roared in anger, “Don’t interfere, little girl. You couldn’t protect others before and now, with me near it, you don’t have the strength to stop me at all!” it said proudly.
“I might not be able to stop you, but I can slow you down” The white light spoke fiercely. The light glows brighter, engulfing us within. “Listen to me, the ball that your friend found can be used to seal the demon temporarily enough for you to escape from this place safely. However, the demon is free and will do anything to stop you and your friend. Read the dairy and you will find the answer that you need.
“What about you princess? That monster would harm you, wouldn’t it”, I asked, concerned.
“Don’t fear me, I have lived this long, hoping one day some will come and defeat this demon and free me. I believe it is you Derek, until next time.” With that, the light flashed so brightly, blinding momentarily, and we opened our eyes. We were outside the castle near the cave's previous entrance.
“We are okay, we made it.” Carl said, surprised.
“Yeah, we did, but we can’t stick around, we need to leave now,” I said firmly. I asked Alexander for the orbs that he had left and placed them near the cave entrance. If I’m right, these orbs can be set to be destroyed given the time. It took a few minutes to understand the time and placing them when I heard place collapsing inside the cave. The demon was nearing. I need to leave now. I ran as fast I could, the snow crunching beneath me. I soon reached our camp area, which was vacant and the helicopter was ready to depart. I saw the other professor calling out to me. I jumped toward the reaching hand while Mike took off with speed. Once inside, I saw the cave collapsing, smoke covering the whole area. I don’t believe anything is left there now, but the deprecating sound of an angry roar from the demon. It was trapped for some time, but not for long.
“Oh god what has happened?” The professor asked sadly.
“It is a long story, professor, you might need to sit down for this” I said calmly.
We settled in our seats as we flew far away from the destruction. It was a few minutes later than we were away that I and the other told the professor what had occurred in the last hours.
Unknown POV:
“Wow what you know, you were right, Derek actually was able to counter Venom even though he was just in his human form. What will happen when he reaches his full potential?” My partner spoke astounded.
“Even though the amulet just amplified the power that was stored within him, but the way he used it while not knowing it wasn’t the amulet's power and the fact the curse was draining his soul, I was quite surprised he was still moving around.” I said quietly.
“You think he will die in the end?” My partner asked.
“Unless he awakens his demon form completely, then yes, it is likely he could die.” I said firmly.
“Well then, we hope that he finds a way to to his true power soon, otherwise it will be checkmate for them.” My partner said.
“Indeed,” I said.
Derek, from now on things will be difficult and different in your life,. However, but it is the time for you to step up, everything falls upon your decision and choice, whether you fight with your human form or embrace the person you truly are. I pray that you succeed because once you become a demon you can never return to the way you want to live. I wish there was another way, but even with my power I can not interfere in this battle. This battle will determine whether you are worthy of finding the other gem and defeating him.
