NATE
I was in a state of trance. The world around me suddenly changed into a slow-motion film. The wind was gently playing with her long dark brown hair, caressing her porcelain face. Her cheeks were flushed from the cool autumn breeze. She wasn't probably used to mountain weather. The ruby red lips were tightly pressed, she was as serious as a schoolteacher during an examination.
I couldn't see her figure because of the long dark coat but she was quite tall for a woman, over 5'7. Compared to me, she was still short, as I was 6'4. I found her beauty unique. I got chills through the whole body when I watched her. And that scent, hmmm… I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. Cinnamon.
"MATE! MATE! MATE!"
The wolf went nuts. Little Cinnamon put her hand down, just staring intently ahead, not paying me any attention. Hmm. Weird. Didn't she know there was an Alpha in front of her? If only I could see her eyes… I know what to do! I'll honk the horn, make her turn around. So, I pushed the steering wheel. At that particular moment, Cinnamon almost ran across the road, looking furious. But why?
"Don't honk, you Neanderthal. You’ll scare her.” Nero growled at me, facepalming himself. And that's when I noticed it. A thin white cane with two red stripes. She mapped the area in front of her with a sweeping swing of white cane and followed its route with confidence.
No... Impossible...
"Nero, the she-wolf is not okay."
"You're not okay, dumbass." I rolled my eyes. Possessive already?
"She's blind? But she can't be. Even if she hurt her eyes, she'd heal fast thanks to the wolf's abilities. Nero, get in touch with her wolf."
My wolf paused for a brief moment and then howled desperately. "I can't."
"What? Why?" I was confused. She was old enough to have her wolf. It shouldn’t be dormant anymore.
"She doesn't have a wolf. But it doesn't matter. She's beautiful and she's ours. Go say hello and lick her face." Sure. That would be the best introduction ever. I’m certain she would kick my butt if I did that.
"How come she doesn't have a wolf? Do you think she's lost it? Or is she an Omega and her wolf is dormant? Or..." Realization hit me hard. The pieces of the puzzle were falling into place. She didn't have a wolf. She was blind. She didn't seem to mind my presence. She didn't feel my alpha aura...
She was a human.
"For the Goddess's sake." I sighed out loud. Cinnamon was already standing on the other side of the road and I couldn't take my eyes off her. She turned in my direction and I finally saw her eyes. The subtle shades of grey. The grey was a sign of blindness, yet they were the most beautiful eyes I have ever seen. Her lips curled up into a sweet little smile and she slowly raised her hand. Did she want to wave at me? How nice. Perhaps she did feel my manhood after all, though with humans it is very unlikely. Her next gesture brought me immediately back to my senses. And I frowned.
My wolf rolled on his back and couldn't stop laughing. Little prick was obviously enjoying himself. "Mate is fun. I like her."
"Ha-ha. Mate is fun." I imitated his voice. "That middle finger belonged to you too, flea-bag." I replied and he growled angrily.
"Don’t you dare calling me that. I have been flea-less for a very long time." I hit the sensitive spot. There was an episode with one she-wolf who ran away after the one stand we had with her. We'd never seen her afterwards, but she left a tiny itchy present for my furry friend here, something to be forever remembered for. Poor wolf had some hard times. Now it’s just a funny story.
Cinnamon spinned around swiftly and just moved forward. I kept on watching her until I realized that I already knew where she was headed. To Beth’s.
I contacted John via mind-link. "John, something's come up. Don't wait for me."
