My father did not say anything after that. We all ate in silence till my Mother decided to speak up. “Alpha Derek, I heard you have not met your mate yet,” she said.
“Maintaining the Alpha’s lineage is very crucial to keeping your pack safe from useless rou…” My father glared at her, making her stop. She realized her mistake and was quick to apologize.
“I am so…r…” My father cut my mother off abruptly. “ I apologize on behalf of my wife, she is ignorant of the affairs of the pack," he said.
Derek smiled softly before saying, “No, let her be,” he paused, looking at me before continuing. “I haven't met her yet.” He twirled the cup in his hands and looked back at my mother.
“There is a lot of speculation about my mate, some say she is dead, some say the moon goddess did not give me one because of my bad deeds.” He chuckled dryly.
“I am curious about your thoughts, Luna Rowan,” he replied. His eyes glowed. I looked at the rest, but it seemed I was the only one who noticed. He must have been angry at my mother.
“I did not mean that Alpha Derek,” she said with confidence. My mother’s confidence is the only thing I have always admired about her is the confidence and aura that comes with her.
She did not show that she was scared, like my Father. I could feel his fears from my seat, the fear of losing his pack and losing someone close. I hate the fact that I can read other wolves' feelings.
Grace said it is a blessing, but it feels more like a curse right now. My mother is hiding the fact that her legs are shaking with her stoic face and confidence. My father is doing a terrible job at that.
Ethan’s hatred for Derek is written all over his face. The guard behind Derek is ready to lunge at my father to kill him. I chuckled to myself, my father is way stronger and will kill him without losing sweat.
I did not realize I chuckled out loud until Derek asked for my name. “Princess Rapunzel sure has thoughts of her own,” he said. “ God!! "
" Can’t we all just eat in peace,” I thought to myself.
I was about to talk when Ethan finally talked. “The reason for our invitation, Alpha Derek, is to form an alliance with your pack,” he said.
My father backed him up by adding to it. “We do not seek war with your pack, we want peace.”
“Hmmm…” Derek said, stroking his chin. “Peace…” he repeated. He reached for the jar of wine in front of him. One of the omega’s tried to help him pick it up. He raised his hand to stop him.
He picked it up and poured himself a drink, then chucked it down at once. “Then what is your peace offering, Alpha Rowan?”
“Given the way your beta is the one that has the balls to face me, I believe I should talk to him about the offering,” he added.
“My beta can’t agree on anything without my consent,” my father replied. “We do not have a peace offering, we want an alliance through marriage.” My father said,
“Did he say marriage?” I asked myself, “you heard him correctly.” Evelyn replied.
“Marriage you say, is her mate dead?” Derek asked. I looked at him, then back to my father’s face to hear his response.
He looked down in shame, unable to answer. My mother responded, “Yes, he died while fighting for the pack last year.” She lied smoothly, then gave me a pitiful look.
Derek looked at my mother like he knew she was lying but decided to ignore it. He nodded his head, then asked, “Where is my bride then?” he asked my mother.
Before she could answer, he continued,“ I am guessing it is her. ” he pointed to me. “Yes, Alpha Derek,” she answered.
He did not sound or look surprised about everything as he knew it was going to happen.
“Okay, but Alpha Rowan does not seem too happy about the arrangement,” Derek stated. He was right. My father has been zoning out since the dinner started and has not been pitching in much.
“He is very pleased to be in alliance with you,” my mother said. She placed her hands on my father’s hand, who gave her a weak smile.
My father stood up. “Excuse me, i will be back in a minute,” he said, and left the room. My mom laughed awkwardly before standing up and saying she needed to go to the ladies' room. I took a deep breath.
Finally, I could eat peacefully fully. The bison tasted so much better now that they are gone. I moaned loudly, savoring the meat.
Ethan smiled and asked, “Do you like it that much?” he said a little above whisper. “Are you kidding? " It is so good,” I replied.
“You can have mine,” he said. I looked at my almost empty plate, then back at his still full plate. “I think I have had enough bison for the night,” I said politely.
Ethan nodded. He was about to say something else when the Delta beside him called him, diverting his attention.
I stretched my hand to pick the berries on the other side. The omegas won’t help me even if I ask. The least I can do right now is not embarrass myself in front of Derek.
I mistakenly hit the wine in front of me, splashing it on my dress and the table. “ Shitt… Shittt. " I muttered, grabbing the attention of everyone. Ethan took the tablecloth and tried to dry my dress. The omegas did not make any attempt to assist, making it look awkward.
“Sorry…” Ethan kept apologizing. “It is not your fault,” I said and gave him a weak smile. I stood up and excused myself.
I was not going to change or anything, I just needed to leave that toxic space. I don’t even have another dress to change into. I want to find Grace and tell her everything that happened tonight.
On my way back to my room, I passed the west wing, which was where my father’s study is located. I overheard them arguing.
“You want us to marry her off to the pack that wants her life?!!” I heard my father yell.
