Chapter 2

“Mirabelle!!!!!” I heard Grace scream. I looked back at her in horror. “What are you doing up there?” she asked, looking more horrified than I did. I looked at my position, it looked like I was about to jump off the window. I chuckled softly. “I am not going to die now, Grace, I have a lot of things to do.” I had not even met my mate yet. ” I got down from the window and went back to my bed. The last thing I remembered was looking at my reflection. I don't remember going back to my window. “Is something wrong, my child?” Grace asked as she dropped the herbs beside my bed. “What?!” I asked. “I asked if something was wrong, you are twitching your nose again,” she said, and hit my nose playfully. I giggled. “Come.” she said. She turned my back to her and unzipped my gown. “Undress,” she said. “I am listening,” she continued. “You sometimes know, you can be really nosy,” I said and giggled. “That is why I am here, to stick my nose in your business,” she laughed along with me. “Ouch!!!” I yelped. “It hurts.” I said and faced her. “It is supposed to, if you want your arm to heal,” she said and added more to the surface of the cut. “Keep talking,” she added. “My eyes glowed.” Her hands stopped as soon as those words left my mouth. “ I was at the window looking at the warriors' train when I saw him. " " He had silver orbs. ” I turned to see her expression. She was motionless for a bit before forcing a smile. “ I think he is the Rouge everyone has been talking about. " " I don't know why, but I felt a bond and a strong pull to him, ” I continued. "I don’t remember going back to the window when you came in. " " The last thing I remembered was sitting on my bed looking at my eyes, then you came in, ” I added. Grace let out a loud sigh, she tightened the bandage on my arm the last time before responding. “When was the last time you spoke to your wolf?” she asked. I looked away before responding. “I can’t remember,” I answered and picked up my gown. “I believe it was your wolf, you can’t remember a thing because she forcefully took over,” she said. “If I had not come in at that time, she would have gone to meet him, because of the bond she felt,” she added. “She is such a fool,” I muttered. “You can’t keep neglecting your wo…l…” before she could complete her sentence, the door opened. It was my mother. Grace fell on her knees immediately. “My lady!” she said respectfully. Without sparing me a glance, “Get her ready for the ball tonight!!!” she said. Two maids appeared behind her. They bowed and replied in unison. “Mo…..” she cut me off before I could talk. “You better keep that thing in you in check and do not embarrass our pack,” she glared. “That is the least compensation you have to offer all of us,” she said with so much anger and hatred in her tone. I was used to her not caring about me, but her tone today made me question if she was truly my mother. With tears in my eyes, I replied weakly. “Yes mother.” I could feel grace’s gaze on me. “Mother!!” I heard my little brother call for her. Her expression changed immediately, and she left my room in a hurry. “ Son, I am right here," I heard her say happily. The two omegas that came into the room with my mother walked up to me and tried to pull me up forcefully, “Get your hands off her!” Grace said. “You will treat her with the utmost respect,” Grace added. Her aura was different from what i know. She had the Alpha effect and, since they were both omega, they succumbed to her request. “I will get her ready, bring the dress and leave,” Grace said. The smaller one walked back to the tray I did not notice was there earlier. She handed a long silver gown to Grace. The gown was exquisite. I have never seen any dress so beautiful in my entire life, “something is fishy.” I heard my wolf whisper to me. I subconsciously rolled my eyes. The two maids turned to leave when I stopped them. “You!” They both halted. “On the left,” the smaller one turned. “You can stay.” I said to her with a smile. The other one is my mother’s spy. I could sense it. From her gaze and body gesture, my mother sent her to do something. “What is your name?” I asked. She seems like my age mate. “Ava, my lady,” she said softly, she looked so small compared to me and naive. I love her innocence. “You can stay Ava,” I repeated. She looked at me with the brightest smile I have ever seen. I returned it weakly. Grace looked at me uncertainly, and I nodded, reassuring her. “I need someone my age around,” I said. “It is settled then, let’s get to work,” Grace said. The other maid left swiftly, probably to tell my mother, but she wouldn't care and most likely would ignore her. I was being prepped for what I had no idea about. “Ahhhh!” I yelped. The zip of the dress got stuck to my hair and Ava, unaware, pulled it hard. “I am sorry, my lady, I deserved to die,” she said fearfully. Her look made me laugh wholeheartedly. “Really, you want to?” I said playfully. "I should kill you then," I added. “NO!!!” she half yelled and fell on her knees. “ I don't want to die, my lady. ” she pleaded for her life. “I am so sorry, my lady,” she pleaded desperately. I burst out laughing, and Grace joined me. “You are so gullible,” I said with a laugh. She glared at me playfully before joining in the laugh. “Grace, can you fix this? "I really don’t want to cut my hair,” I said. One thing I am glad I got from my mother is silky hair. Although mine is ginger, it is so obvious I have her hair texture. I ran my hand through it softly. “I sure can,” she said, and left us. “So tell me Ava, how old are you?” I asked. “18 my lady.” she responded. She picked up my shoes and brought them to my feet. I slipped them on. This is my first time trying on heels. I twirled around checking out the dress with a smile. The door opened. I thought it was Grace, so I did not stop what I was doing. I heard my mother scoffing, “Can you smile??” she said harshly. I halted immediately, almost falling. Ava caught me. “Do you think you deserve to smile after causing all of us nothing but pain,” she yelled. “Huh!!!!!?” “So bold of you, they should have killed you then and left my daughter,” she added. " I could not take it anymore, “you daughter?” I said sarcastically. “Guess what ma, she is six feet under the ground!!!” “What!?” She was surprised. I talked back. I had never looked her in the eye before. I took off my shoes and walked to her. “You can do me a favor and join her,” I said with a smile on my face. She slapped me hard on the cheek. I felt blood tripping out of my cheek. This is the first time she raised her hands on me. It was so unexpected. She always channeled the anger to the omega or nanny because of the fear of me shifting to my wolf form. I looked back at her and my face was met with another slap. “You ingrate, what??? I should go and meet your sister, who was killed because of you?” “You are not even remorseful. " You think I am scared of you?” she asked. “ The only reason you are breathing is because of your father. " " Keep that in mind,” she said. I glared at her. At first, I saw fear, then it switched to hatred. My look must have piqued her. She walked to the stand beside my bed and took the knife Grace used to cut the bandage tissue. I moved away from her, “What are you doing?” I asked. I know the knife can’t kill me, but I would rather be safe than sorry. “Get her.” she said to the guards who must have entered after hearing the commotion inside. I could not fight them off. They held me down, and she cut off my hair, tearing the dress in the process. She knew how much I cherished my hair. “I hate you!!!!” I yelled. “The feeling is mutual,” she said and threw the hair at my face. “Get her ready in five minutes, and do not let that b***h enter,” she said and left.
