Chapter 8: I See You Made a Friend

Brooke landed with a thud that knocked all of the wind from her lungs. Keeping her eyes shut tight, she held her breath as she prepared to be ripped apart by the wild animal breathing heavily and howling over her. She braced for the sharp bite, but it took several moments to realize that it hadn't come, even though the wolf was still howling. She opened her eyes to see that the wolf was standing beside her but was growling at the pack of wolves that began circling the pit. She noted that they were not thick and grey like the one she was with but were red and thin. Slowly, Brooke backed away from the wolf until she was up against the side of the pit. The gray wolf tilted his head low and looked towards her for a moment, contemplating her as if she were a puzzle he didn't understand before
