951 Words
"What!? Are you serious?" Bella exclaimed. "Yes, just now, I had a face-to-face with him!" Sally said. Bella's eyes widened in disbelief, "Did he recognize you?" "Not yet, but I think it's only a matter of time before he does!" Sally replied. "What are you going to do? With Luke's temper, he'll make your life a living hell!" Bella worriedly said over the phone. "Exactly, that's why I'm throwing in the towel!" "I support your decision!" Bella said from the other end. "Alright, I'm going to draft my resignation letter now. See you after work!" "Okay, I've picked a place. I'll send you the address later!" "Great!" With that, Sally hung up the phone and headed back to the design department, settling into her workspace. She hadn't even been there a full day! Who would've thought her first task at GlamourWave would be writing a resignation letter! Though she felt a pang of regret about leaving such a promising work environment, Sally decided it was best for a peaceful future. So, she spent the afternoon typing up her resignation letter, all the while eavesdropping on the juicy office gossip. All about Luke's notorious escapades. His career and love life were nothing short of legendary. In just two years, Luke's tastes had shifted from models and celebrities to socialites and heiresses. And from being flamboyant, he had become quite low-key. No one knew who his girlfriend was, though the grapevine buzzed with whispers about his closeness with Erin, the Madeline group's heiress. She was the woman Sally had seen in the office earlier! The grapevine buzzed with whispers that Erin was Luke's latest flame, but Luke had never confirmed it. Despite attending numerous events together and being questioned by the media countless times, he never admitted it! Thinking of this, Sally decided to search for the latest on Luke. A few quick taps on Baidu unleashed a torrent of information. Especially those linking him to the creation of GlamourWave group. In just two years, under Luke's leadership, GlamourWave had grown from an unknown small company to an international player. You couldn't deny, Luke had a razor-sharp business acumen. GlamourWave had already surpassed his family's Makenzie group, and his status as Mr. Makenzie had outshone his previous identity as the Makenzie heir. After two years of growth, he exuded maturity, his past recklessness now a captivating blend of charm and mystery. Looking at these achievements, it was clear that Luke had been doing well. The path of divorce seemed to have smoothed his journey. With this realization, Sally's resolve to resign only grew stronger! It was better for both of them! Otherwise, when the truth came out, things might spiral out of control! * After finishing her resignation letter, it was almost time to clock out. Reluctantly, she decided to hand it to the HR manager the next day. With that thought, she swiftly packed up, eager to make her exit. She had planned a shopping spree with Bella to snag some essentials. Following the address Bella sent, Sally headed straight there. As soon as they met, Bella clung to Sally, eager for details. Sally, with a sigh, recounted the whole ordeal. After hearing it, Bella couldn't help but comment, "Could you two be any more over-the-top?" "I wish it wasn't, but that's the way the cookie crumbles!" Sally replied, munching on some snacks to calm her nerves. The afternoon's events were still hard for her to believe. Bella was also nibbling on something, "He really didn't recognize you?" Thinking about it, Sally said, "Probably not. If he had, his reaction would've been different!" With Luke's personality, if he had realized, he would've torn her apart! At this, Bella perked up, using a spoon as a makeshift microphone, "Ms. Grace, care for a quick interview?" Seeing Bella's antics, Sally played along with a smile, "Sure!" "How did you feel when your ex-husband didn't recognize you?" Sally thought for a moment and seriously replied, "Thank goodness he didn't!" Bella, "…Not even a smidge of disappointment?" Sally shook her head earnestly, "Not at all!" "Confirmed, you're one of a kind!" Hearing this, Sally chuckled, "Oh, stop it!" Bella laughed, then turned serious, "You were his wife for a few years. A woman who isn't recognized by her ex must feel a tiny bit of resentment or imbalance, right?" "When I was thinking about leaving, there wasn't much time for deep thoughts or feelings!" Sally said. Bella chuckled, "So, are you going to quit?" "Yeah, I've already drafted my resignation letter. I'll hand it in tomorrow!" "Are you planning to find another job?" Sally nodded confidently, "Yes, with my qualifications, finding a job in Marseille should be a breeze!" Bella had no doubts about that, "Alright, whatever decision you make, I'm here to support you!" Hearing Bella's words, Sally smiled and raised her glass, "Here's to new beginnings!" "Cheers!" After taking a sip, Bella looked at her, "I'm just going to the restroom." "Okay!" With that, Bella got up and headed in that direction. At the same time, a waiter passed by and accidentally spilled coffee on someone nearby. "Ah—" came a surprised, feminine squeal. Hearing the commotion, Bella and Sally both turned to look. There stood a woman with coffee spilled all over her, and her outfit screamed designer couture! Bella watched, unsure of what exactly had happened. Then, the woman looked up and, without knowing the full story, snapped at Bella, "What are you doing? Can't you watch where you're going?" As she lifted her head, Sally recognized her instantly. It was her! Erin! Bella furrowed her brows in annoyance, realizing her mistake, and hastily apologized, "Sorry about that, it wasn't intentional!"
