Chapter 12 - Welcome, Miss Duke

“Yes, grandfather Orlan!” The heavily armed bodyguards respectfully obeyed his order and charged to arrest Paul.

Paul didn't resist being arrested. Instead, he turned to grandfather Orlan and said very coldly, “Old man, you will regret this very action of yours. I promise you.”

At that particular time, a voice sounded from the microphone, saying, “Announcing the arrival of Miss Duke from Duke's Group!”

It was the voice of the event’s moderator.

Following the voice, an elegant looking young lady walked into the Orlan's ancestral home alongside her servants and heavily armed bodyguards.

“Why did Miss Duke suddenly appear at the Orlan's family?”

“Did she come to honor grandfather Orlan's birthday or what…?”

“Haha!”

Grandfather Orlan burst into a joyous laughter which forced the wrinkles on his face to disappear immediately. Then, he said heartily, “I didn't know that Mr Duke was going to honor my invite. He earlier told me that he wasn't in town and so may not make his attendance on my birthday. Meanwhile, he sent his heiress to come celebrate with me and my household. What a happy day!”

Turning to the members of his family he commanded, “Listen to me everybody. Today is a very glorious day for us and I am very elated to have the heiress of the Duke’s empire come to celebrate with us. Therefore, hurry now and welcome her!”

The grand patriarch of the Orlan's family was all over the moon rejoicing after he heard that the heiress of the Duke's empire was present at his birthday party.

“Wonderful!” One of Ella’s uncles shouted after he learned that his father was the one who invited Miss Duke to his birthday party. “Don't worry Dad, I will go and welcome her immediately.”

Initially he thought that something was wrong for Miss Duke to suddenly appear at their ancestral home. He was scared to the moon as the Dukes were among the biggest empires who stood at the top of the power pyramid in the city. They were only below the Ultimate Groups which was the biggest conglomerate in town and could do anything to anybody as it pleases them.

Although the Dukes seldom visit any family, their visitation always brings either fortunes or extreme disaster depending on the ground with which they visited such a household.

Now that he learned from his father that she came to honor his birthday party because of his acquaintance with her father who was currently the head and patriarch of the Duke's family, he wanted to welcome her personally.

Next, he stood up from his chair and said to a young man who was sitting beside him, “Everest, I want you to join me to welcome Miss Duke.”

Everest was his son and he wanted to seize the opportunity for him to become acquainted with Miss Duke. That way his son might be lucky to impress her and win her admiration for himself.

“Alright, then.” Everest nodded and sluggishly stood up to follow his father because he didn't know why his father wanted him to go with him. Everest was a shy guy who hated associating himself with ladies.

His father's name was Desmond Orlan and he was a man full of ambition.

Seeing the reluctance in Everest's face and eyes, Desmond leaned closer and whispered into his ear, “Common boy, you should be happy that I want you to go with me. This is an opportunity for you to impress Miss Duke by being nice to her. That way, you can express yourself and try your luck to see if both of you can become husband and wife in the future. Miss Duke is a very beautiful and promising young heiress of the Duke's empire. Associating yourself with her is like winning a fortune lottery to yourself. So, I expect you to seize this golden opportunity, brighten up yourself and be of your behavior today. Also, remember to impress her by treating her like your queen.”

“Mhm,” hearing this, Everest nodded and said after he forced some smiles on his face, “I understood you perfectly well Dad and I assure you that I am going to try my best. However, I can't promise to make her acquaintance today.”

Desmond didn't pursue the matter again. Instead, he headed straight towards the hallway alongside Everest as they went to welcome their important guest.

At the same time, Lily's mother also turned to her son, Bennett and nudged him saying, “Bennett, you should join your uncle to welcome her. Remember to impress her and see if you can get into her good book. That way, you can make your advances on ...”

“I understand mom,” Bennett smiled and said, “I will do my best to win her attention today.”

Then, he joined his cousin and uncle to welcome Miss Duke who had arrived at the Orlan's ancestral home.

Soon, they reached the entrance which leads to their family's event’s hall where the birthday was taking place.

Creeks!

As soon as they reached the gate, Desmond opened the door for their most hallowed guest to come in while Everest and Bennett displayed some camaraderie gestures for the guest while urging her to come in.

“Welcome to my ancestral home, dear Miss Duke!” Bennett was the first person to flash some crazy smiles at the elegant and stunning young lady who appeared across from them the moment Mr Desmond Orlan opened the door. Then, with a cheerful voice and smiling face, he flattered her saying, “I must confess that you're the prettiest lady ever seen on this planet earth, and I am overwhelmingly privileged to have come to welcome you into our home. Please, would you mind if I treat you to a meal maybe after today or some other time?!”

“I welcome you into my ancestral home, Miss Duke. My grandfather has long been waiting for your arrival. Please follow me and I will lead you to the high table.” Everest also smiled at her before turning to lead her into the main hall.

“Mhm,” at that moment, the stunning young lady whose name was Aisha Duke nodded her head in acceptance of their pleasantries and then followed them into the hall.

“Miss Duke, you're here already. Welcome and please have your seat.” Grandfather Orlan who has been patiently but anxiously waiting for her arrival smiles at her the moment she walks into the hall and respectfully requests her to have her seat. “I never knew that your father would honor my birthday by sending you to come celebrate with me and my family. Please, tell him that I am very much appreciative of this kind gesture from him and I promise to always remain grateful.”

Meanwhile, Aisha Duke didn't take the seat that was specially prepared and reserved for her. Instead, she stood there motionless and with an inexpressive face, she was staring at everybody's faces as if she was searching for someone.

This reaction from Aisha troubled grandfather Orlan and he asked her with a smiling yet unsteady voice saying, “I - Is anything the matter?”

“Where is he?!” Aisha suddenly opened her mouth and asked, confusing the members of the Orlan's family, including their patriarch, grandfather Orlan.

“Who?!”
