Leah POV
A single phone call from my company changed everything before the sweat on our skin even had a chance to cool.
I sat on the corner of the heavy oak desk, pulling my dark shirt back over my head while Benedict buttoned his jeans. The silence in the library felt different now. It was no longer filled with angry heat, but with a quiet, heavy tension that made my chest feel tight.
My phone on the desk buzzed twice, breaking the quiet. I picked it up and tapped the screen.
"What is it, Olivar?" I asked into the speaker.
"We have a problem," Olivar said, his voice coming through crisp and sharp. "My contacts at the coast just called. The pack elders didn't go home. They filed an emergency injunction with the regional council to freeze your company's transport permits."
I stood up straight, my eyes narrowing. "They frozen my trucks?"
"Every single one," Olivar confirmed. "They are claiming your company is using rare pack resources without proper regional clearance. If those trucks don't move by tomorrow morning, the rare herbs in storage will spoil, and your shareholders will panic."
Benedict stepped up beside me, his golden eyes flashing with sudden anger as he heard Olivar's voice over the speaker. "Put it on speaker," he commanded.
"He is already on speaker," I said, shooting Benedict a sharp look before turning back to the phone. "Olivar, can our legal team bypass the regional board?"
"Not before tomorrow morning," Olivar answered. "The only person who can override a regional freezing order on pack land is the Alpha King himself."
I looked up at Benedict. He stood tall, his broad shoulders squared, watching me with a steady, calculating gaze.
"I can sign the override right now," Benedict said, taking the phone gently from my hand. "Olivar, tell the legal team to send the paperwork directly to my personal terminal. I will clear the permits within ten minutes."
"Understood," Olivar said, pausing for a second. "And Leah? Ethan is awake. He is asking for you."
"I am coming right down," I said.
Benedict ended the call and placed the phone back on the desk. He didn't move away. Instead, he stepped into my space, his large hands resting gently on my waist.
"You see what they are doing, don't you?" Benedict asked softly. "They are trying to cut your legs out from under you so you have to rely on me."
"I don't like being backed into a corner, Benedict," I said, placing my palms against his bare chest to hold him at a distance.
"I am not the one cornering you, Leah," he said, his thumb tracing the soft bone of my hip through my jeans. "I am the one opening the gate. I will sign those papers because your company is yours. I will not let them use your hard work to force your hand."
"Why?" I asked, looking straight into his eyes. "Five years ago, you cared about pack laws more than anything."
"Five years ago, I was a fool," Benedict replied, his voice dropping into a low, quiet rasp that sent a shiver straight down my spine. "I thought holding power meant following every rule the old men made. Losing you taught me that power means nothing if you have nobody to protect."
My heart gave a heavy thud against my ribs. I wanted to stay angry. I wanted to keep the cold wall up between us, but the way he looked at me made it impossible to pretend I felt nothing.
"Ethan is waiting for me," I whispered, my voice softening despite my best efforts.
"Go to him," Benedict said, leaning down to press a soft kiss against my forehead. "I will sign the papers and join you downstairs."
I left the library and walked down the long, carpeted hallway toward the guest wing. The pack house was quiet, but the air felt charged, as if everyone inside was waiting for the next storm to hit.
When I opened the door to Ethan's room, I found him sitting up in the large bed, drinking a cup of warm water while Olivar adjusted the pillows behind his back. Ethan's face had regained its color, his golden eyes bright and clear as he looked up at me.
"Mommy!" Ethan called out, his small voice full of energy.
A massive wave of relief washed over me. I rushed across the room and sat on the edge of the mattress, pulling him into a tight hug. "How are you feeling, sweet boy?"
"I feel good," Ethan said, pulling back to look at me. "The medicine tasted bad, but my tummy doesn't hurt anymore. Is this the Alpha's house?"
I glanced at Olivar, who gave me a subtle nod, letting me know he hadn't brought up Benedict's identity.
"Yes, baby," I said, smoothing his dark hair back from his forehead. "We are staying here for a little bit while you get better."
"He has a really big dog outside," Ethan said, pointing toward the window. "I saw it from the bed."
"That was a wolf, kiddo," Olivar said with a faint smile, standing up from the chair. "A very loud one."
The door opened behind us, and Benedict walked into the room. He had put on a clean black shirt, but his hair was still slightly damp from the rain earlier. He stopped near the doorway, his golden eyes locking onto Ethan with a look of pure, raw devotion that made my throat tighten.
Ethan went quiet, staring at Benedict with wide eyes. "You have the same eyes as me," the boy said softly.
Benedict took a slow step forward, dropping down to one knee right beside the bed so he was at eye level with Ethan. "I do," Benedict said, his voice surprisingly gentle. "Your name is Ethan, right?"
Ethan nodded. "Are you the Alpha?"
"I am," Benedict said. "My name is Benedict. Did my house take good care of you while you were sleeping?"
"Yes," Ethan said, looking down at his hands. "Mommy said you have the special medicine."
"I have whatever you need," Benedict said, reaching out very slowly to touch Ethan's small shoulder. Ethan didn't pull away. He just looked at Benedict with quiet curiosity. "You are very brave, Ethan."
"I am big now," Ethan said proudly. "I protect Mommy."
Benedict looked up at me, his eyes shining with a mixture of pride and deep sorrow. "You did a wonderful job raising him, Leah."
"I had help," I said, looking over at Olivar.
Benedict's jaw tightened slightly, but he didn't pick a fight. He stood up, keeping his focus on Ethan. "Rest a little more, big guy. Your mom and I have some work to finish, but I will make sure the kitchen brings you whatever you want to eat."
"Pancakes?" Ethan asked.
"As many as you can eat," Benedict promised with a small smile.
I kissed Ethan's cheek and stood up, following Benedict out into the hallway while Olivar stayed behind to watch the room. Once the door closed behind us, the heavy silence returned.
"The paperwork is signed," Benedict said, leaning his back against the wall. "Your trucks are cleared to move. The elders won't be able to touch your shipments again."
"Thank you," I said, genuinely meaning it.
"You don't need to thank me," Benedict said, stepping closer to me in the dim hallway. He reached out and brushed a strand of dark hair behind my ear, his skin hot against mine. "I told you I would open the vaults for you."
"Benedict, we still have to figure out what happens next," I said, my breath catching as his hand lingered on my jaw. "The elders aren't going to stop just because you signed a paper."
"I don't care about the elders," he whispered, stepping even closer until my back hit the wooden wall of the hallway. "I only care about what is happening in this house. Right now."
"We can't do this here," I panted, though my hands came up to rest on his broad shoulders of their own accord. "Someone might walk down the hall."
"Let them walk," Benedict growled softly, leaning down to press his mouth against the column of my neck. He bit down gently, making a sharp, needy gasp escape my lips.
His hand slid down my body, unbuttoning my dark trousers with quick, practiced speed. He pushed his fingers down inside my underwear, finding me already slick and burning for him.
"You are so hot for me, Leah," he whispered against my skin, sliding two fingers deep inside my wet entrance.
I choked back a moan, my fingers digging hard into his shoulders as he began to move his hand in a fast, rhythmic stroke. The heat in my belly coiled tight instantly, my body betraying my mind once again.
"Benedict, please," I whimpered, tilting my head back against the wall as his thumb rubbed slow, agonizing circles against my sensitive button.
"Tell me what you want," he growled into my ear, his fingers driving deeper into me, stretching me until I was trembling in his arms.
"I want you," I gasped, unable to hold back the truth as the pleasure built toward a peak. "Take me to your room."
Benedict pulled his hand back, leaving me breathless and aching. He picked me up in one swift motion, swinging me into his arms, and carried me fast down the hallway toward his master suite.
He kicked his bedroom door shut behind us and locked it, throwing me onto the center of his massive bed. Before I could even sit up, he was over me, stripping off his shirt and pants in seconds. His heavy, rigid length sprang free, thick and pulsing with heat.
He parted my legs and shoved my trousers down to my knees, guiding his heavy head straight to my dripping entrance. He looked into my eyes, his golden gaze burning with pure Alpha hunger.
"You are mine, Leah," he declared, driving his hips forward and burying himself all the way inside me in one deep, brutal thrust.
A loud cry left my lips as he filled me completely, stretching my core to its absolute limit. My legs wrapped tightly around his waist, pulling him deeper as he set a hard, relentless pace that shook the heavy bed beneath us.
Every stroke hit the exact spot that made my mind go blank with pleasure. Benedict slammed into me again and again, his hands gripping my hips tight, holding me still as he worked his body into mine.
"Benedict!" I screamed out as the intense climax ripped through my lower belly, my inner walls clamping around his thick shaft like a vice.
Seeing me shatter was all he needed. Benedict let out a deep, gut-wrenching roar, driving his hips into me one last heavy time before his own release took him, spilling his hot seed deep inside my core while he crushed me to his chest.
We lay together in the dark room, our bodies soaked in sweat, breathing heavily into the quiet air as the gold mate bond hummed peacefully between us.
