I SURVIVED THE FERRY ride by the skin of my teeth. I closed my eyes; the car stopped. “We’re here,” announced Puma. When I opened my eyes. It was a different planet. Light years removed from my familiarity. I unfastened my seat belt, grabbed my backpack and exited. Feet planted on unbeknownst soil, I slid my arms through my backpack straps. A velvety deep green blanketed the ground. The house looked strange standing alone. Puma stood near the car’s trunk. “Come, give us a hand with the luggage.” I closed the door and made my way to the rear of the car. Fehed handed me my duffel bag. Puma carried two bags, and he carried all his large hands could grip. The bag got heavier with each step. Trying to combat the tired in my arm, I sat my bag on the ground.
