8 –––––––– IT WAS THE UNOFFICIAL first day of school. An orientation to welcome the 6th graders and their parents with a reception to follow. Puma and Fehed will accompany me. They had taken me school shopping the week before. I got notebooks, pencils, pens, and a binder. Two pairs of sneakers, Superstars and a pair of Chuck Taylor’s. Brand-new underwear, second-hand jeans, and shirts. A lot of energy went into selecting my orientation outfit. There was a knock at the door. I answered. On the other side of the door stood Uhuru and Chaka. They wrapped their arms around me. “We miss you!” Puma and Fehed appeared. They exchanged Fervent hugs and kisses. Uhuru gazed at me. “I bet you’re surprised to see us.” Surprised, happy, and unhappy. Our family reunion moved into the living room.
