Chapter Eight It was dark by the time Alison made it home. After Suzanne dropped her off, she made her way across the courtyard, looking up to the third floor, seeing her light on, and breathing a sigh of relief. It was something she didn’t want to tell anyone about, and she wondered why she’d always been so scared of the dark. She started up the concrete stairs, gripping her keys in her pocket, feeling the winter cold. She had spent family night at Marcus and Charlotte’s, and the entire family, as always, had been there—minus Marcus and Harold, who seemed to have their hands full with a day of assaults.
