It’s been about a month since my last encounter with Pablo. He emailed me to meet up with him today. I wore my best outfit and brought the file. When I got there the same woman who greeted me before walked with me to where he was. For some reason I felt nervous. After all he knew I didn’t have any skills when I applied for the job.
“I haven’t received an update from you. Do you have what I need?” He asks me as he looks out the window. His back turned towards me. “No I didn’t see Sal using your card. I went to every place listed in the file. None of the purchases were big enough.” He took a deep breath. I try to remain calm but I’m sweating like crazy.
“Don’t worry.” He said as he turned facing me. Taking steps closer to me, “I revoked his access to my card.” I nodded. “Does that mean you won’t need me anymore?” I asked. “No, you have another task. Do you like to cook?” He asked. I looked into his eyes. He seems serious. “Yes I love to cook.” He took another step closer. “I would like you to make all my meals for me. If it’s ok with you I have a room for you at my house. You would be a live in chef.”
My jaw dropped. “Are you serious?” He nodded his head. “I don’t mean to be rude. How much will I get paid and do I have any off days?”
“I can continue to pay you $5k a month. No there are no off days. You will be making meals for me and my family.” I broke eye contact. “Do you accept?” He asks.
I nodded. Faking a smile. “Perfect.” He texts me his address. “Move in by tonight.” My eyes widened but I didn’t say anything. “Ok. Is that all?” I asked. “Yes you’re dismissed. When you get to my house you will be given clothes to wear.” I smiled nodding my head.
When he broke eye contact I quickly walked away. My phone beeped. A notification of Sal removing my info from his phone. I did my best to get in the car to drive home. Sal’s car was parked outside. I walked towards the front door. Before I could unlock it Sal opened the door for me. He greeted me with a smile with a hand motion to come inside. I had a feeling in my stomach. This could go both ways.
I played dumb. Showing excitement on my face and hugging him. “Hey baby, I finally get to see you. I missed you so much!” I said in my high pitch voice. He hugged me back. This time it wasn’t with enthusiasm like he usually does. “Hey baby, we need to talk.” I pretended to be in a rush to start making dinner.
“Ok, well are you hungry? Let me make you something.” I walked towards the kitchen. He put his arm in front of me. I raised one brow in confusion. “No, that’s not necessary. Please have a seat.” Reluctantly I did.
“Daisy, I love you. You know that. Why are you stalking me?” I continued to play dumb. “What are you talking about?” He pulled out a screenshot on his phone. It had my info in there listed under his. “What does that mean?” I asked playing dumb still.
Sal became frustrated. He wanted to yell at me but had no reason for it. Instead he was pacing back and forth. I waited until he spoke. “I feel like we don’t have trust in our relationship and I want a break. I think it’s best if we live separately for a while until we can work on the trust.”
A laugh came out of me. “Is that it? This is what you want me to sit down for?” I waved my hands in a gesture for him to back off. “If you want to leave go ahead. No one is stopping you.” I said in my usual tone. Pretending to be sad. He took a deep breath, “Ok. I’ll pack my stuff. I’m going to stay with my parents while they’re here.”
I went to the kitchen pretending to look for something in the cabinets. He headed upstairs and I texted my mom what was going on. My lease is still good for the rest of this year. Mom texted me, “Why not get keep your current apartment? Men change their minds as soon as they don’t care about you anymore. Let Sal leave. Don’t let him come back though.“ I texted her back, “I know mom. Hopefully the new job is easy enough.”
Mom sent a laughing emoji, “Cooking is easy! That’s all he wants you to do? I can send you my recipes. Your boss won’t let you go anywhere.” I liked the message then went to place all the food I wanted to bring with me in a bag. I’m sure Pablo has never had anything like this. He probably shops at the most expensive grocery stores where everything is $15-$20 for any little thing.
Sal ended up leaving. I wanted our relationship to end on a dramatic note. Something memorable. I placed some eyedrops in my eyes rushing to the stairs crying. “Sal, please don’t go. I love you.” He didn’t try to push me away. He cried too. “I’m sorry baby, it’s too much for me. I need you to have my back and I feel this is the only way we can get back to how things were.”
“How long will you be gone?” I asked fake ugly crying. He gave me the answer I already knew. “I don’t know.” Dramatically I turned around crying with my face in my hands. He hugged me from behind. Slowly his hands were touching me in places he shouldn’t. I removed his hands and went back downstairs. Steph can handle his mood swings. I’m not going to let him use me one more time.
Sal angrily packed the rest of his stuff and walked out the door. He came in and out multiple times to get all of his belongings. “Daisy, let me say this one last time.” He said standing in front of the door. I looked at his eyes. We made eye contact, “I love you and always will.” He kissed me on the lips passionately. I knew he was mad because I refused to sleep with him one last time. He bit my lip showing how angry he was. He even pulled me in close to him. I pulled away and pushed him. “Goodbye Sal.” I broke eye contact pushing him out the door then locking it.
