8 After her previous experience at Dr Arnold’s clinic, Esther was reassured to see this reception area almost empty. At least the doctor should be able to concentrate on what she was saying. She gave her details to the receptionist and opened a magazine, but didn’t read it. Instead, she stared unseeing towards the window. Random thoughts flitted through the crevices of her mind. Was she worrying unnecessarily? Not all lumps were cancer. Not all cancers were malignant. Perhaps she’d be one of the lucky ones. The receptionist’s long nails clicked on her keyboard.
