Klaus The second Mira went limp in my arms, fear hit me so hard it felt like someone drove a blade through my chest. “Mira.” I shook her gently. Nothing. “Mira, please, look at me.” Still nothing. Her head rested against me, too still, too pale, and for the first time in a very long time I felt something close to panic. Real panic. The kind that steals breath. Tina was saying something, words crashing into me in pieces. Linda. Bella. Mira’s father. Absurd. Impossible. The three of them were still snapping at each other in the background, voices sharp and messy, but I barely heard any of it. I had a thousand questions. I asked none. Because all I could see was Mira lying lifeless in my arms. Nothing else mattered. Her father was still on the ground too. I looked at Aaron.
