As soon as their eyes met, Zenya knew. She was his mate. But who was she?
He sighed deeply.
"What did you do to her?" His mother demanded angrily. The Alpha stood up and approached her, trying to calm her.
"Relax, my Luna. We didn't harm her. We were just asking questions," the Alpha said gently.
When he got close, he immediately wrapped his right arm around his wife, hugging her.
"She's fragile and needs treatment. I'll take care of her. She's not an enemy; I can see it in her eyes," the Luna replied, leaning into the Alpha's embrace.
"I know. I was just asking her some questions. We found out that Jun was holding her. Remember him? That greedy rogue," the Alpha explained.
Zenya clenched his fists, restraining his anger. That man had hurt his mate? He wanted to kill him.
"Really? That bastard! Why would he do that to her? What's her name? I forgot to ask," the Luna said angrily.
"I don't know. You interrupted us before I could talk to her. Her name is Hadley," the Alpha replied.
Lucas cleared his throat, reminding them of his presence.
"I'll excuse myself. I have many things to do," he said, turning to leave. But his mother’s voice stopped him.
"My son, did you find her? The future Luna? I told you to focus on finding her. You're becoming a workaholic. Our pack is waiting for your turn," she said.
Zenya paused, looking back at his mother. He knew she was right. The weight of his responsibilities and the importance of finding his mate were pressing on him, but the sudden appearance of Hadley had thrown him off balance. He nodded slightly, acknowledging his mother’s words, before leaving the room with a heavy heart.
Zenya shook his head and left the room. He headed to his office, where his best friend, Sean, was waiting.
"I heard a girl was found at the southern boundary of our land. What happened?" Sean asked as Zenya entered.
Zenya sighed. "Mom took care of her. She's harmless," he replied, heading straight to his desk. He poured himself a glass of whiskey while Sean lounged on the long couch.
"How sure are you, man?" Sean asked with a smirk.
"Very sure, Sean," Zenya said, downing the whiskey in one gulp.
"If you say so. By the way, I ran into Tori on my way here. She said to tell you she's in your room," Sean said.
Zenya put the glass down and sat in his chair. "She's really into you, man," Sean laughed, shaking his head.
"She's not my mate. You know she's just a distraction," Zenya sighed.
"Tori is beautiful and Luna material, but she's just a distraction? You're cruel," Sean remarked.
"What do you need from me?" Zenya asked, changing the subject.
Sean laughed. "Well, I just wanted to let you know that April and I are heading to the Shadow pack. We'll be there for three days."
"You have a lot of work here," Zenya glared at him, but Sean just laughed.
"I know you just want to be with me, bro, but April—Ow! Hey, man!" Sean dodged but still got hit in the head. Zenya had thrown the whiskey bottle, but Sean caught it before it broke.
"Leave my office," Zenya said, starting to read the papers on his desk.
"We're leaving tonight. It's up to you, future Alpha," Sean teased as he got up to leave.
"Go to hell," Zenya muttered, trying to focus on the documents.
But he couldn't concentrate. His mind kept drifting to Hadley, her image filling his thoughts. His body heated up, excitement coursing through him as he imagined how she would respond to his kiss, her lips...
He shook his head, trying to read again, but failed. Dammit!
Sighing, he stood up and left the office. He needed to cool off. As he walked to his room, everyone he passed, whether soldiers or servants, bowed and greeted him. He barely acknowledged them, too preoccupied with his thoughts.
When he reached his room, he immediately opened the door. But as soon as he closed it and started towards the bathroom, an arm wrapped around his neck, and someone kissed him.
Fuck. He had forgotten Tori was here.
He pushed her away. "Zenya... I need you," she said, kissing him again. Damn.
He kissed her back, unable to control himself anymore. Lust took over, and they ended up having s*x.
It took nearly two hours for the women to bathe Hadley, ensuring every corner of her body was thoroughly cleaned and her wounds tended to. Now, she was lying on a big bed in a large, beautifully furnished room that resembled a princess's chamber.
The chief physician was applying something to her wounds, and Hadley winced and whimpered with each application. Earlier, when the chief physician had entered the room, she had been frightened and almost fell, but the two women quickly caught her. Despite his elegant appearance and old face, reminiscent of the Master and the man in prison, his demeanor was calming.
"We will not hurt you, young lady. I am Rudy, the chief physician. I am here to treat you. You will be safe with us, trust me," he had said, his eyes kind and reassuring.
Hadley felt vulnerable under the thin cloth covering her naked body. Gracia, one of the women who bathed her, had explained that she needed to be naked to properly heal all her wounds. The other woman, Sab , had also introduced herself, and Hadley found them both to be kind.
"Ouch..." Hadley moaned as Rudy, cleaned the large wound on her leg.
"I'm almost done, young lady," he said with a gentle smile, applying a black medicine she didn't recognize and then wrapping it in a white cloth.
When Rudy finished, he packed up his things. Gracia and Sab helped him while Hadley watched.
"Your wounds will heal in just two days. Just rest and don't worry about anything. Do you understand, Miss Hadley?" Rudy said softly.
"Thank you," Hadley replied with a nod.
"You're welcome, young lady. I'll be leaving now," Rudy said before exiting the room.
"How are you feeling, Hadley?" Sab asked as she came closer, while Gracia continued tidying up.
"I still feel some pain, but other than that, I'm fine. Thank you," Hadley replied, smiling at her.
She had learned that Sab was the same age as her, and Gracia was only a year older.
"That's good to hear," Sab said with a smile.
Sab helped Hadley lie down properly and covered her with a thick, soft blanket, but suddenly a loud rumbling sound interrupted them.
Both girls looked at each other in surprise. Sab glanced at Gracia, and they both burst into laughter. Hadley, embarrassed, wished she could sink into the bed.
Their laughter subsided, and Gracia approached the door.
"I'll get you some food before you go to bed. It's not good to sleep on an empty stomach," she said with a smile before leaving.
Hadley and Sab exchanged another glance and laughed together this time.
