The air in Leo’s penthouse was tense as dawn approached. The city below lay quiet, but the undercurrents of danger rippled through the night. Leo hadn’t slept, his mind racing with strategies to neutralize the threat looming over Isabella. Marco was working tirelessly, coordinating the search for their enemies.
Meanwhile, Isabella sat in the corner of the living room, her arms wrapped around herself as she processed the surreal situation.
Marco’s Update
Marco entered the room with his phone in hand, his expression grim.
“We’ve traced the message to a burner phone,” he said. “Whoever sent it knows what they’re doing. It’s going to take time to track them down.”
“Time is a luxury we don’t have,” Leo growled, pacing the room.
Marco sighed. “I know. But we can’t make mistakes. If we act rashly, they’ll retaliate.”
Leo stopped, his piercing eyes locking onto Marco’s. “We need to send a message. One that makes them think twice before coming near her again.”
Marco hesitated, glancing at Isabella. “What about her? She’s already shaken.”
Leo’s voice softened slightly. “I’ll handle it.”
A Private Chat: Leo and Isabella
Leo walked over to Isabella, sitting across from her on the sleek leather couch. His imposing presence filled the space, but his tone was gentler than before.
“You’re quiet,” he said.
Isabella looked up at him, her warm brown eyes meeting his intense gaze. “What do you want me to say, Leo? That I’m fine? Because I’m not.”
“I know,” he said softly. “And I don’t expect you to be. But you need to trust me.”
“Trust you?” she asked, her voice tinged with disbelief. “How can I trust someone who’s dragged me into a world I don’t understand?”
Leo leaned forward, his elbows resting on his knees. “I didn’t mean for this to happen. But now that it has, I’ll do whatever it takes to protect you.”
Isabella shook her head. “You keep saying that, but what does it even mean? Are you going to fight these people forever?”
“If that’s what it takes,” he said firmly.
She stared at him, her heart pounding. “Why, Leo? Why do you care so much?”
He didn’t answer immediately, his gaze dropping to the floor. Finally, he said, “Because I’ve been where you are—alone, scared, with no one to turn to. I won’t let you go through that.”
His words stunned her into silence. For the first time, she saw a glimpse of vulnerability beneath his hard exterior.
___________
Hours later, Leo’s men received a lead—a name tied to the burner phone. Marco called Leo, who was still in the penthouse with Isabella.
“We found someone,” Marco said. “A low-level informant. He might know who’s behind this.”
“Bring him in,” Leo ordered.
“And Isabella?” Marco asked.
Leo glanced at her, sitting by the window. “She stays here. I’ll handle this.”
__________
Leo and Marco met with the informant in a dimly lit warehouse. The man, trembling under Leo’s icy gaze, spilled everything he knew.
“It’s… it’s Gianni Russo,” the informant stammered. “He’s the one after the girl. Said she’d be the perfect way to get to you.”
Leo’s expression darkened at the name. Gianni Russo—a rival who had been a thorn in his side for years.
Marco frowned. “Why now? What’s his angle?”
The informant hesitated. “He… he’s trying to take control of the Eastern ports. Thought if he took you out of the picture, he could move in.”
Leo stood, his presence towering over the cowering man. “Where is he?”
“I don’t know,” the informant said quickly. “But… but he has people watching the girl. He’s waiting for the right moment to grab her.”
Leo’s fists clenched, but he forced himself to stay calm. “Get out of my sight,” he growled.
The informant bolted, leaving Marco to shake his head. “This is bad, Leo. Russo’s reckless enough to try something soon.”
“Then we’ll strike first,” Leo said, his voice cold as steel.

Chat Between Isabella and Sofia
As Leo prepared for the confrontation, Isabella confided in Sofia through text.
Isabella:
Leo just left. He said it was for my safety, but I was scared.
Sofia:
What happened?
Isabella:
Someone’s targeting me to get to him. He’s trying to stop them.
Sofia:
Isa, this is exactly what I was afraid of. You’re in too deep.
Isabella:
I didn’t ask for this, Sofia. I didn’t ask for any of it.
Sofia:
I know. But you have to think about yourself. Is this the life you want?
Isabella:
I don’t know what I want anymore.
___________
Leo and Marco tracked Gianni Russo to a luxury villa on the outskirts of the city. The confrontation was swift and brutal.
“You’ve overstepped, Russo,” Leo said, his voice dangerously low as his men surrounded the villa.
Russo smirked, leaning back in his chair. “What can I say, Venturi? You made it too easy. One pretty little girl and you’ve lost your edge.”
Leo’s temper flared, but he kept his composure. “Touch her, and you’ll wish you were dead.”
Russo laughed. “Big words for a man who’s already losing control.”
Leo stepped closer, his dark eyes blazing. “You’re finished, Russo. Stay away from her, or I’ll make sure you never see daylight again.”
Russo’s smirk faltered, but he recovered quickly. “We’ll see about that.”
With a signal from Leo, his men moved in, dismantling Russo’s operation piece by piece.

Back at the Penthouse
Leo returned late that night, his suit dishevelled but his resolve unbroken. Isabella was waiting for him, pacing in the living room.
“What happened?” she asked as soon as he walked in.
“It’s handled,” he said simply.
“That’s not an answer,” she pressed.
Leo sighed, running a hand through his hair. “Russo won’t bother you again.”
“For now,” she said, her voice trembling. “But what about next time? What happens when someone else comes after me?”
Leo stepped closer, his expression softening. “I’ll be there. Every time.”
Isabella’s eyes filled with tears, but she quickly wiped them away. “I didn’t ask for this, Leo. I didn’t ask to be part of your world.”
“I know,” he said quietly. “But you’re in it now. And I’ll do whatever it takes to keep you safe.”
She looked at him, torn between fear and something deeper. “I don’t know if I can live like this.”
Leo reached out, gently brushing a strand of hair from her face. “You’re stronger than you think, Isabella. And I’ll prove it to you.”
