Cal’s POV
Her cave was something of a surprise. One open plan room with a sofa table and kitchen area and a wood burning fireplace, her bed tucked behind into an alcove at the back and a door that I assumed lead to a bathroom- so nothing too unusual for a cave! It was decorated in a fairly minimal style, but all the furniture and fittings were designer brands. Even the rug on the floor looked authentically persian. The ‘sofa bed’ was another obviously designer item- a huge corner sofa that looked more comfortable than your standard bed.
‘This place is amazing’ I let out, genuinely surprised. She blushed and looked about. I could feel how nervous she was now it was the two of us in human form alone together. I couldn’t help but sniff the air curiously. Her beautiful scent filled my nostrils it reminded me of a caramel apple pastry- warm and golden. She was leaning against a kitchen counter, trying to look calm but her knuckles were white with how tightly she was gripping it. I perched on an arm of the sofa, trying to look relaxed so that she might loosen up too. That’s when I smelt the scent of a male werewolf, the scent was a little stale- not too fresh but I could tell it was a powerful wolf. I let out an involuntary growl. ‘Do you have a boyfriend?’ I growled before I could stop myself.
Midis POV
I couldn’t really help inviting him in... I used the excuse that it was freezing cold outside, which it was in fairness! But I could tell Cal was capable of looking after himself. Just the fact he’d made it here in the middle of winter alone was enough to do that.
But now he was here I was struggling to act normally. I felt so drawn to him, I’d never experienced anything like it, and he was looking so calm and collected, effortlessly cool so the emotion seemed to just be a one way thing. I’d heard enough about finding your mate to know that you should both know instantly. It was normal for wolves to claim each other the first time they laid eyes on their mate or the instant they cane of age and realised who their mate was. But out of the four of us (cal me and our two wolves) I seemed to be the only one infatuated. So I guess he’s not my mate... just a very attractive guy! Which was making my struggle to behave normally around him pretty embarrassing.
I watched him inspecting my home with interest, I tried to look relaxed leaning against a kitchen counter. ‘Do you have a boyfriend ?’ He suddenly burst out, sounding quite angry which completely took me off guard.
‘Not at the moment.’ I replied, trying to sound like dating was something I’m used to! It’s not - there aren’t many options in rogue kingdom anyway but Royal has also always deterred any potential dates anyway.
Cal looked like he was grinding his jaw at that. ‘Would you like a drink ?’ I offered, trying to bring back his attention, and also a drink I hoped might help me relax a little.
He smiled at me, instantly bringing warmth to my cheeks ‘a beer would be nice.’ I almost groaned aloud- I actually Hayley drink so all I have in here is a bottle of champagne Royal got me for coming of age and a half empty bottle of vodka I use to get through the rare party and a load of soft drinks. Seeming to read my expression Cal walked himself over to the fridge and laughed. My kitchen is fairly small and my skin erupted in goose bumps at his sudden proximity, I couldn’t help myself breathing in his scent as I clamped harder onto the counter for support.
‘This will do nicely’ he said, grabbing the vodka and a bottle of coke. ‘Want one?’ I just nodded as I reached behind me for two glasses, hoping he wouldn’t notice my hands shaking slightly. I turned round and he was right next to me with the bottles, stupidly I stumbled a little in shock and dropped a glass. Like lightning Cal placed the bottles on the counter and caught the glass before it hit the ground.
‘You ok?’ He asked, seeming genuinely concerned and reaching for my arm. The second he touched my skin goosebumps erupted over my whole body. I quickly turned away, why was I feeling like this? How was he still so calm and collected? ‘Take a seat on the sofa I’ll bring the drinks over’ he continued, his dep voice authoritative but kind. Still confused I headed over without another word, glad my back was to him so I could try to compose myself.
