Finn reined in the icy glint in his eyes, rested a hand on the armrest of his wheelchair, and a faint smirk crept into his gaze. "I was just trying to find out what kind of games these two had planned for you, that's all."
Miles and Sierra both froze for a second.
"Wow, Finn is really eager. You want to start the fun right now?"
Scorn pooled deep in Finn's eyes, cold and bottomless. "Eager as I am, Holly here doesn't look like she's ready to play along. You're not seriously worried she'll bite back, Miles?"
The pair breathed a visible sigh of relief before bursting into mocking laughter. "She's an orphan, and I'm her only legal guardian. She couldn't make a move even if she wanted to—she's got no cards left to play."
Miles narrowed his eyes, leaned in conspiratorially to whisper in Finn's ear, his tone oozing with flattery as he laid his cards on the table. "All the security footage at home has been edited and wiped. Right now, everyone thinks she's just a delusional psycho that no one will take seriously."
He cackled wildly. "Even if we made her lick Finn's shoes, that'd be an honor for her."
I stared daggers right at his smug, disgusting face.
Unnerved by the intensity of my glare, Miles reared back and swung his hand straight for my face.
Finn shot out a hand and caught his wrist mid-swing, holding him firm. "Watch yourself, Miles. This is a public space."
Miles laughed awkwardly and pulled his hand back, his face instantly shifting back to a sickeningly sycophantic smile.
Finn's smirk faded. He slowly crouched down, his thumb brushing lightly across my cheek. "You're really just gonna take that? I thought you said you were reborn. How come you're still this weak after coming back?"
Behind us, Miles snorted out a laugh. "Wait, what? She said she's reborn? Sounds like her condition's gotten even worse. Now she's spouting nonsense and making up wild stories to get attention."
The whole room erupted in raucous laughter along with him, hundreds of mocking stares pinning me in place like so many needles.
I didn't even flinch, calm as could be. "Miles, laugh as hard as you want now. The harder you laugh today, the harder you'll cry when I drag you out by the scruff of your neck later."
Miles blinked in shock at my calm reaction, turning to Sierra beside him. "Is she… actually lucid right now?"
Sierra waved a dismissive hand, not worried in the slightest. "She's just a lunatic. Play the video of her having a breakdown, and who the hell would believe a word she says?"
She shook with laughter, her earrings swinging wildly as she curled up soft and sweet in Miles's arms. "Holly, I actually feel bad for you. You had such a perfect hand, and you blew it completely."
I lifted my eyes to meet hers. "You feel bad for me? Every piece of jewelry you wear, every custom designer dress you have on, hell, even the underwear you're wearing right now—all of it was bought with my money. What gives you the right to feel sorry for me?"
Sierra's face went from flushed red to pale with rage, then livid green. She stamped her foot, yanking hard on Miles's sleeve, her eyes welling up with hot, angry tears of grievance.
Miles snapped at me, his voice sharp and threatening. "That's enough, Holly. Don't forget your identity!"
I smoothed out the wrinkles in my clothes, totally unruffled. "My identity? The psycho you paint me as? Your wife? Or the toy you handed over to your enemy on a silver platter?"
Miles snapped, completely enraged. He barked orders at the nearby servants in a low, dangerous tone. "Take the madam back home. Don't let her disturb the other guests."
"Whoa, hold your horses. I was just about to kick you out in front of all these people."
Finn lifted a hand, smoothly blocking the approaching servants. His voice carried non-negotiable, hard-edged authority. "I'd also like to see how Holly plans to kick you out."
Miles's face burned with humiliation at the public snub, but he didn't dare cross Finn. He broke out in a cold sweat and forced himself to swallow his anger.
With that, I turned to the large display at the front of the venue. At Finn's casual "go ahead" gesture, I tapped my phone screen lightly, connecting remotely to the venue's large display.
The screen immediately popped up with the backend interface of a robotic vacuum.
When Miles saw that, his taut nerves relaxed all at once. He and Sierra both burst into screeching, jeering laughter. "Hahaha! You gonna use a robot to sweep me out, you crazy b***h? Can't believe I actually fell for your stupid bluff!"
I tilted my head to look at him, a cold, sharp smirk tugging at the corner of my mouth. "I told you. To kick you out, one robotic vacuum is all it takes."
I tapped the confirmation button with my fingertip.
The next second, Miles and Sierra's laughter got stuck in their throats mid-cackle. All the blood drained from their faces, leaving them as pale as sheets.
