Elizabeth was lying awake next to Sawyer. It was one of the few times he had fallen asleep before her, but she couldn’t switch off and she knew as soon as they went to bed that there was no point in her even trying to sleep. She had been happy enough lying close beside him – it was comforting, and she was able to forget about feeling depressed for a while as she closed her eyes and focussed on the pleasant sensation of his arm around her and the warmth of his body. She finally decided she couldn’t stay there anymore and slipped silently from the bed, grabbing her coat despite having no idea where she was actually going to go in the freezing cold at five in the morning.
