Elizabeth walked silently beside Sawyer, avoiding talking about what had just happened and what the repercussions were. She had guessed he was more upset that Elle had not shown up than he would admit to her.
When they reached the bottom of the stairs, he stopped, and gestured up them.
“Go ahead. I’ll be there in a minute.”
She nodded and left him as she went to the room alone.
She didn’t know what he was planning on doing. She couldn’t guess whether he was going to fetch a drink or finding Elle and telling her she had to leave. He was making sure she couldn’t pick up on her thoughts, and so she chose to leave him alone rather than prying – whatever he was doing, he wanted to do it without her.
