26 Kaylee A month of rehabilitation and I’d finally gained enough strength in my arms to feed myself without making a mess. “Look, Dad. I haven’t spilled a bit of anything. I’m making progress.” “You are.” He got up from the rocking chair he’d been sitting in. “Your mother and I have a surprise for you today. Now that you can hold things without dropping them, we think you’re ready.” “Mom’s coming today?” I asked with surprise. They hadn’t come together to see me since that first time. “I thought you guys didn’t like to leave the dog alone.” “Um, yeah.” He turned away from me as he went on. “We don’t really have a dog.” They lied about having a dog? “Why would you lie about something like that?” I put the spoon down then pushed the tray away. “Why would you guys lie to me at all?”
