CHAPTER:14

The silence after the battle felt unbearably heavy, and I could still feel the pain of every lost friend. I stood beside Caden in the middle of the ruined courtyard, my heart still racing with a mix of anger and uncertainty. Though Ronan had fallen, I couldn't shake off the feeling that something unseen still lingered. We had won the fight and shattered the curse, yet I couldn't shake the question, What would happen next.? Before I could find my voice and speak a word, I felt a sudden cold chill followed by a strange silence, broken only by the ragged breathing of our warriors. Then, a whisper, very soft but haunting, carried through the wind. “You think you've won?” The voice pierced deep into my mind, cold and mocking. I turned sharply, searching for the source of the voice, but there was nothing to see. Only the broken remains of the battlefield. A gust of wind swept over us, and I knew that type of knew was for no other than that of the Oracle and that she was near. In the blink of an eye, she appeared. Her eyes shone brightly like gold, and I felt as if she carried the wisdom of many years. "The darkness is broken,” she said, drawing symbols into the air. “But the darkness never truly dies; it waits. Be careful his powers still linger." Don't feel relaxed; always be alert. Caden stood tensed beside me. “You mean he could return?” The Oracle didn’t answer immediately. Instead, she knelt where Ronan had fallen, pressing a hand to the blackened earth. A low hum filled the air, and I saw something like shadows twisting under the soil before vanishing in my eyes. I was shivering at the sight of what I saw. She looked up at me. “His body is gone, his influence is shattered, but power like his doesn’t vanish easily; it finds a new path. ” “Serenity, the choice you made today has changed everything. But it also has consequences.” A chill ran through me. We had won…. but something told me the battle was never truly over. The Oracle was seriously staring at me, which scared me. “Serenity Rhoane,” she called in a calm, firm voice again, “you stand at a crossroads. The future's not set in stone.” I looked at her with confused and scared expressions written all over me. “What do you mean, Great One?” I asked. The Oracle held out her hands and continued, “You have a choice to make. You can stay by Caden’s side and help rebuild this kingdom, or you can walk away and follow your path.” My heart raced. Walk away? After all the pain, the loss, and the hurt, could I leave everything behind? I glanced at Caden. Whose eyes were full of questions and hope, but also hurt. Before he could speak, the Oracle said, “Your choice must be yours alone. Do not let anyone decide for you.” I felt a storm of emotions inside me. For years, I had fought against my fate, against being cast out and blamed for a curse I never chose. Now, here I was, given the freedom to decide my future. I could stay with Caden, try to heal our broken trust, and help the people rebuild. Or I could leave and try to build a new life, far from all the pain. I closed my eyes and thought of all those long, lonely nights spent in the forest, of the fear and sorrow that still haunted me. But I also thought of the people who had suffered, of the chance to build something better. Slowly, I opened my eyes and met the Oracle’s steady gaze. “I choose to stay,” I said firmly. A murmur rose among the people around us. Some looked surprised; others felt relieved. But I was only concerned about Caden's reaction He let out a deep breath and nodded. “Then we face it together,” he said softly. The Oracle smiled kindly. “A true choice, made with an open heart, will stand the test of time. But know this: “peace does not come without sacrifice.". You people may have won the battle, but don't think that the war is over.” Her words skip my heart for seconds. "Tell me, what do you mean by that?" Because I didn't understand, I asked the Oracle with my voice barely heard. She didn't answer; instead, he faded, but her final words echoed in my mind. “Shadows move where light returns. Beware the darkness yet unseen.” And then she was gone. I turned to Caden, my heart beating fast. “This isn’t over,” I said. His face was grim. “No, it’s just the beginning of torments of the unknown.” At that moment, a noise rustled in the trees. I looked up quickly and saw a dark figure move at the edge of the clearing. Two glowing red eyes met mine briefly before the figure disappeared back into the darkness. My pulse raced; another threat was out there, waiting; that's just a sign. “Did you see that?” I asked Caden, my voice trembling with both fear and determination, to end it all no matter what. Caden shook his head, his grip on my hand tightening. “Yes, I did. And we must be ready for anything.” A hush fell over the crowd as we began to move. My mind was full of questions. Could I trust Caden after all that had happened? Would staying mean that the past would come back to hurt me again? But the hope in Caden’s eyes made me think that maybe, together, we could create a better future without torments; it might just take a few challenges.
