After I distanced myself from Darren, I seemed to be happier. And tonight, I heard the rest of the gang saying they were going to a pub, but Darren wasn't going because Leah wouldn't let him. So, I decided to go with them.
"Why are you so late, Eve? We've been waiting for ages!" Kent's voice asked.
"I was getting dressed... How do I look? Do I look good?" I asked the gang.
"You're the prettiest in the group, right?" This time, it was Pat's voice.
"I mean, I'm the only girl in the group, so I must be the prettiest, right? I'm asking you guys seriously, do you think I'm pretty?"
"You're really pretty," Kent replied.
"You're really pretty, Eve." This time it was Chin's voice.
I turned to look at Pat and nodded at him.
"And you... Pat?"
"Yeah... you're beautiful, really beautiful," Pat replied with a slight smile.
"Do you think I'm less pretty than Leah?" My question made them exchange awkward glances.
"The three of us know... how you feel about Darren," Kent spoke up. I looked at the three of them in shock. I never thought anyone would know. If even they could see it, why the hell couldn't Darren ever notice anything?
"We understand you, Eve... We know you're hurt. You can vent to us." As Pat finished speaking, tears flowed freely from my eyes.
"You should let it go... Darren doesn't love you. He loves Leah." Chin, you didn't have to say that.
"Yeah... you don't have to say it. I already know," I said, crying, and then all three of them comforted me.
I drank several glasses to drown my sorrows until my consciousness was gone.
"Can I have some more to drink? Where's the alcohol? I want to get drunk."
"I think you've had enough, Eve. You're really drunk now," Kent said.
"No, I'm not done yet. Give me more."
"I think we should call to pick up Eve. In this state, she probably can't drive back," Chin said.
"Yeah... good idea," Kent agreed.
Then Pat called Darren immediately. After a few words, he hung up.
Not long after, Darren arrived at the pub. The three of them helped carry me and put me into Darren's car.
"Darren, we're leaving Eve with you. I'll drive the car to the condo later," Kent told Darren.
"Alright," Darren agreed and drove off immediately, while I lay sprawled in his car.
When Darren arrived at the condo, he carried me out of the car and took me to my room, which was right next to his. Can you believe it? My dad bought me this condo, and it was such a coincidence that on the first day I moved in, I happened to see Darren standing right in front of his room. I don't know if it's a small world or fate.
He opened the door and tossed me onto the bed, making me cry out.
"Ouch!" I curled up in pain.
"You know you can't handle alcohol, so why do you keep drinking?" Darren chided me.
"It's my business. You don't need to interfere," I replied, starting to feel my senses returning.
"How can I not interfere when you're this drunk? You're my friend, Eve."
"Friend this, friend that. What kind of friend..." I didn't even finish my sentence before Darren pressed his lips against mine so quickly that I was caught off guard.
"Mmm... let go," I told him to release me, while I pounded on his chest. Darren grabbed my wrists and kissed me intensely and passionately. The longing for the touch I once received made me melt under him. I kissed him back passionately, and soon he pulled away.
"I miss you, Eve," he whispered. "I miss your warmth, your kiss... the way you held me like I was the only one who mattered. Do you know how much I’ve tried to stay away, how hard I’ve fought this feeling? But every part of me aches to be close to you again."
“Stop talking,” I breathed, flustered by the way his hand brushed against the edge of my skirt. “You’re making this harder than it already is.”
He didn’t say anything. Instead, his touch deepened, his lips replacing his fingers as he explored me with a tenderness that made me tremble. My body responded before my mind could catch up. Perhaps the wine made me bolder, or maybe it was just the truth of how much I wanted him too.
“I can’t take it anymore,” I whispered, voice low, trembling. “Please…”
Without hesitation, he shed his clothes, and I followed, our bare skin finally meeting after what felt like a lifetime. We didn’t need words. Our eyes said everything: the longing, the regret, the pull we never truly escaped.
He entered me with a power that startled us both, and I gasped, gripping him tightly as waves of sensation crashed through me. His rhythm grew deeper, more urgent, as if trying to make up for all the time we’d lost.
“You feel like home,” he murmured against my neck, and I couldn’t tell if I was crying or just breathless.
We came undone together, tangled in heat and memory, our hearts racing as one. When it was over, we lay side by side, breathless and silent.
“Eve?” he said softly, almost like a prayer.
"Hmm?"
"Shall we become Friends with Benefits?" Darren's question almost took my breath away.
"......"
"I want to sleep with you again... Honestly, I'm hooked on you. I've never been with anyone as amazing as you before."
"Even with Leah?"
"Leah and I have never done anything. Leah said she'd give it to me on our wedding day. But you understand, right? I'm a guy, and I need to let off steam, but I promised Leah I'd stop being a player like before. It's been torture. After being with you that night, I wanted to be with you again and again."
"So you just see me as a way to let off steam?"
"It's not like that... I get something from you, and you get something from me. It's a win-win situation for both of us. I know you enjoy it too."
"For how long?"
"I don't know... it depends on our satisfaction. If either of us wants to end the relationship, we can say so, and we'll go back to being friends as before."
I was silent for a moment.
"Eve... so what do you decide?"
"Huh? Alright, I agree."
Wait a minute! Eve, what are you thinking, agreeing to that? You've managed to get yourself out of the pain. Why go back and hurt yourself again?
Because I love him... I'm willing to do anything just to be near him, no matter our status is. If I end up getting hurt, I won't blame anyone because it's my choice.
Right now, my thoughts are battling in my head.
"If our Friends with Benefits relationship ends, we'll go back to being close friends as before. Promise?"
"Hmm, I promise."
"Then let me have you again... my little best friend is hard again."
"Hmm, go ahead. I want you too."
After that, our Friends with Benefits arrangement continued on and off for a whole year.
