Back to the Old Routine
Don returned to his duties as a rural beat officer with decidedly mixed feelings.
His four weeks performing the role of Acting Sergeant in Newbury had seriously rekindled his interest in his own career — and returning to the life of a “village bobby” seemed dull and uninteresting by comparison.
It was true that Don enjoyed the freedom of working on his own that the section gave him. However, prior to his spell of “acting jack” (as they called it) in the town centre it had been five years since he had last worked full time as a team member on a shift in a busy police station.
