Adam I winced when the gun went off. And in the split second when the bullet should have struck me dead, a body slid in front of mine. I heard the bullet hit something metallic before clattering to the ground somewhere in the garage. When my scattered brain was able to focus enough, I zeroed in on the very naked form of Jadea on her knees before me, protecting me. There was no mistaking her white pixie cut hair, or her very familiar silhouette. Or the deep, angry gashes along the right side of her back and shoulder.  They were partially sown, as if they had been ripped apart by movement and were leaking drops of blood, leaving little red rivers down her skin.
