The Calm Before the Storm
WENDY tapped Kaiser’s shoulder so that he’d let go of her. But he didn’t fully let go. He was still hugging her. That earned a smile from Wendy. She looked at Kaiser’s face and noted that indescribable expression written on his face. And she amused herself with how he looked like his longing for something had just been quenched.
“You weren’t at school today,” Kaiser said, as if it was that simple.
Wendy bit her lower lip, her eyes rolling at the side as she recalled her reason why she didn’t show up at school today. “I just wanted some break from school.”
