Chapter 9

835 Words
After having the drinks, Sakshi leaves with Nikita as she told her parents that she will sleep over at Nikita's house. Sakshi left peacefully but she was unaware of the brewing storm that she left in her wake. Sakshi's POV Something was ringing in a far distance but my sleeping haze didn't let me get a good guess. After some more time, I heard a voice, but it was more clear and close now and annoying as hell, which made me open my eyes slowly and then I realized that it was my alarm that had been ringing for one hour now. After switching it off, I again closed my eyes but opened them abruptly after one second. Then I took in my surroundings and realized where I was and what time it was and I am effing late for my meeting. That made me sit up but that was the biggest mistake. My head was pounding like someone was hammering directly on it. Just then, my sweet best friend decided to make her presence known. ''Good morning babe'' she said in a chirpy as hell voice which made me doubt if she was with us yesterday or not. She gave me a painkiller and a glass of water and plopped down on the bed with an annoying smile. ''Why are you smiling so much? Don't you have a hangover'' I asked after gulping my medicine. ''Nope as I have a high alcohol tolerance and we didn't drink that much yesterday so I am fine, which can clearly not be said in your case'' I groaned at that. And closed my eyes again. But the witch didn't let me close my eyes for a minute. ''Come on wake up girl, you have a meeting in an hour. Get up and get ready.'' Nikki said while shaking me. ''What? How do you know I have a meeting? I whined at her. ''You yourself told me to remind you about it,'' she said. That reminded me that I had told her about it. ''It's okay, let me sleep for a minute, then I'll get ready. I said while lying down again. ''Nope, not even for a second, and you also gave me permission to pour water on you if you don't wake up on time. I guess I should go and do that.'' ''Don't you dare do that'' I yelled at her while she giggled like a child. ''Okay fine I am going to get ready''. With that, I made my way to the bathroom. After getting ready, I made a run for my car to reach my office on time as I had a very important meeting today and I couldn't afford to lose it. I arrived on time and rushed to my office. My secretary called just then to inform me about the arrival of Mr. Khanna, with whom I will be signing the deal. So, without any delay, we jumped right onto the presentation. I focused my whole attention on my work throughout the morning, and when I signed the deal, my happiness knew no bounds. I closed my eyes, but my sweet headache decided to return with full force, making me groan and clutch my head. After some time, when it subsided a little, I decided to head to Starbucks for a treat. ''You can also leave now, Kirti. And thank you for coming today on such short notice.'' I said to her while walking to the door of my office. ''No problem boss. I am here to make everything smooth for you.'' she smiled softly. Only if she can make everything smooth for me, but alas, some things have to be handled by me alone. I placed my order and took a booth to relax for a bit. Just then, my best friend decided to call, so without giving it any thought, I picked her call for her to yell at me for seeing a very hot guy, and then she described his personality and looks and went on and on and on about him. ''Won't you ask me how my meeting went or whether I got the deal or not.'' after having enough of the rubbish about that guy. I decided to ask her. ''What's there to ask about it? I know you got it. So why waste time asking about something that I already know?'' was her smug response. ''No need to be so smug,'' I said with a full grin. If there is anyone who boosts my confidence, then that is my janeman [sweetheart] Nikki. ''You know I am always right'' She said cockily this time. I sometimes really wonder what did I saw in her or how she is my best friend. I was so engrossed in her blabbering that I didn't notice the movements that happened around me and that was the biggest mistake of my life. And when I did turn around to notice the shuffling from my side, I got the shock of my life.
