“Time to wake up, Carino” Mayah heard Marco whisper in her ear. “Go get ready for the party.” he instructed.
Mayah complied, lifting herself up slowly holding her ribs. She hurried to the bathroom and turned on the light. Letting out a low sigh, she stepped turning the water on as hot as she could get it. The water cascaded down her body as she sobbed quietly. After ten minutes of scrubbing herself raw, she shaved her legs, brushed her teeth when she heard a knock at the door.
“Carino, your clothes are on the bed,” he called to her through the door. “You have ten minutes to meet me downstairs.”
Mayah waited a few moments before exiting the bathroom. Not wanting a repeat of her previous punishment, she hurried and got dressed putting on the black and silver cocktail dress with heels before rushing out of the room.
“Que hermosa te ves,” he said to her kissing her on the cheek. “Shall we?” he held his hand out gesturing for her to start walking in front of him.
Making their way down the stairs to the escalade, Marco stood patiently as the rest of his men followed them down the stairs. Once he could see he all his bodyguards were present, he slid into the backseat next to Mayah. Marco glimpsed at Mayah for a moment before motioning for Ricardo to pull away from the mansion.
“You haven't said a word all day carino,” Marco said to Mayah who appeared to staring off into space. He rubbed her leg to try and get her attention but was unsuccessful.
They traveled for almost an hour before pulling up to a gate surrounding a mansion almost as big as Marco’s.
“Senor, we are here,” announced Ricardo pulling through the gates.
Once the vehicle parked, Marco let out a sigh and faced Mayah who still was gazing off into the distance. “Carino, I know your punishment seemed harsh but you are allowed to speak when spoken to.” he said to her. When she still didn't respond, he sighed again. He wasn't sure he liked how badly he traumatized her. He enjoyed inflicting pain and fear on others but not to his favorite. “Lets go,” he said before pulling her out of the vehicle.
Marco led her up the stairs through the front doors. Once inside, Marco led Mayah by the small of her back into the party room where most of his trafficked women were waiting for his arrival. Standing against the wall in a single file line he motioned for the DJ to turn down the music.
“Gentlemen, welcome!” he said loudly. “Tonight, we are here to celebrate the birthday and the return of Mayah, my fiance” he announced. “Many of you have wondered and inquired about her availability and I am here to announce that Mayah and I are engaged to be married.” he said with a smile looking at her as a tear slid down her cheek. “I have provided entertainment for the evening. Let the party begin!” he shouted as he pointed to the line of women near the wall.
The crowd applauded and shouted congratulations as Marco led Mayah to a table in the far corner of the room by the small of her back.
“Are you surprised?” he asked Mayah sipping from his glass of champagne waiting for her to respond. “Carino, I asked you a question.” he said with an annoyed tone in his voice. When she still didn't answer, he grabbed her by her face forcing her to look at him. “Answer me,” he said in a threatening tone.
“Excuse me Mr. Montoya,” interrupted a voice. “I was wondering if I could have a word please,” said the man.
Marco let go of Mayah’s face. “I want an answer when I come back Mayah” he said to her getting up from the table to follow the young man.
Mayah nodded still not saying a word as she watched Marco and the man walk away. When the man walking with Marco turned to look back, Mayah gasped. It was Carlos, her classmate.
“Miss us?” Mayah heard Kace say as he approached the table. Seeing that Mayah was in a daze he leaned down in front of her. “Mayah, its Kace.. can you hear me?” he asked worriedly.
He stood up as Adriano walked up to the table. “Princess, time to go” said Adriano looking around the room.
“She won't speak. I don't know whats wrong with her” Kace said to Adriano.
“Princess, we don't have time for games. We have to go,” he said handing his hand out. “Mayah? Say something princess.” he pleaded.
“Adriano, how long can your brother keep him distracted?” Kace asked looking around nervously.
“Not long, we gotta move” he said grabbing Mayah by her arm. “Come on Princess, help us out,” he said to her lifting her from her chair. “Did he drug you? Look at me,” he instructed her.
“Of course I didn't,” Adriano heard Marco say behind him. “I broke her,” he added with a grin. “I broke her spirit. She has no fight left.”
“Princess-” Adriano began.
“Princess, huh? It almost sounds like you have a thing for my fiance.” Marco walked up to Adriano and angrily held his hand out to Mayah. “Carino, we wouldn't want a repeat of earlier would we?” he said looking in Adriano’s eyes. “If you come to me know, your friends can leave unharmed.” he said to her.
Mayah snapped out of her trance and finally looked up at Marco. She took a hesitant step towards him with tears coming to her eyes.
“No!” shouted Adriano gripping her arm tighter. “You don't have to do this Mayah. You don't want to do this!” he said to her.
“You see, Mayah belongs to me,” he said to Adriano. “She became mine the day I killed her parents.” As Mayah took another step away from Adriano and Kace, Marco laughed. “She’s lost to you.” he gloated. “Mayah, if you want your friends alive, you will walk to me right now.” he commanded.
Mayah turned towards Kace and Adriano. “I’m sorry,” she mouthed with tears streaming down her face pulling her arm out of Adriano’s grip and walking to Marco.
“Now, tell them goodbye carino. This will be the last time you see each other.” With a grin, Marco motioned for his men to escort Kace and Adriano out of the party. “If they come back again, kill them.” he instructed as he watched Kace and Adriano being drug out of the reception hall.
A few hours later after evicting his unwanted guests, Marco sat with Mayah on his lap for the rest of the night every so often stroking her arm or rubbing her back while sending out messages from his cellphone. With his curiosity and jealousy getting the best of him, he leaned forward and grabbed his drink, downing it in one gulp before turning Mayah to face him.
“I’m going to ask you a question, and you are going to answer me. Do you understand?” he asked her without waiting for a response. “Who is the man that came with the Devil’s Angel?” Marco paused for a moment to give her a chance to answer before he was interrupted by the sound of gunfire in the distance. “f**k!” he yelled getting to his feet with a tight grip on Mayah’s arm.
“Senor, we have a problem.” said his driver Ricardo.
“Take her to the car,” he said pushing Mayah towards Ricardo. “Where is the rest of my property?” he yelled looking around.
“Senor, there’s been a security breach. The feds are here. They posed as some of your party guests! We have to leave!” he said to him.
Too caught up in his thoughts, Marco didn't realize that most of the men in the party left with the women be brought and had not returned. Enraged, Marco pulled his gun and pointed at Ricardo before letting out a yell in frustration. He knew that with the FBI closing in, escaping would be nearly impossible. Especially with Mayah in her current state. “Take her to the car, get her back to the house. If something goes wrong...you will wish you died tonight,” he said to him through gritted teeth.
As soon as Ricardo turned around to head to the doors, he watched in fear as the doors blew off their hinges followed by a blinding light.
“Freeze! FBI!” he heard being screamed from in front.
Disoriented from the loud bang and still blinded by the light, he pulled his gun and pointed at the agents in front of him.
“You're under arrest, let go of the girl and drop your weapon!” yelled one of the agents.
Ricardo looked at Mayah who was looking around the room. Following her gaze, he saw Marco in the far corner behind the agents with his gun trailed at him. Realizing he was out of options, he aimed his gun at Marco and yanked Mayah in front of him before firing his revolver. He knew Marco wouldn't risk shooting her he thought. As soon as he fired, Ricardo heard two loud bangs before feeling a burning sensation in his chest. Looking down, saw blood seeping through his shirt. “Mierda,” he hissed dropping his gun and falling with Mayah to the ground. Not realizing that Mayah had been shot in the stomach he raised his gun again before losing consciousness.
