It had been nearly a month since Mayah was rescued and brought home from the hospital. During that time, she avoided Kace as much as possible. She had fallen into a comfortable routine at the Devil’s Angels headquarters. Both she and Krista were enrolled back and school and had been registered for homeschooling for that month before attending school non campus.
“Mayah, did you finish your math assignment?” Krista asked joining her at the dining room table.
“Yes, didn't you?” she asked with a smirk.
“Almost...you should let me copy.” Krista sat down and leaned towards Mayah.
“No, she shouldn't.” Kace said coming from the kitchen. “Mayah-”
“Sorry guys... I have a project to finish. See ya,” she said hurriedly rushing from the room. Hearing a knock at the door she changed course from heading towards the stairs to the front door.
“Wait!” Kace yelled after her as she rounded the corner. “Mayah!” letting out a growl in frustration. “I got it.” he said cutting her off at the door. “But we need to talk.”
“No Kace, we don't.” she responded as Kace opened the door.
“What do you want Adriano?” He was not excited about him visiting Mayah.
“I’ve come to see Mayah. Is she available? It seems whenever you answer the door, she is always busy,” he said with a menacing tone.
Kace rolled his eyes as Mayah leaned in front of the door. “Hey, sorry about that,” she said shooting Kace a glare. “Come in.”
“Actually she is busy, aren't you Mayah? You just said you have a project to work on.” Fuming with jealousy he slammed the door as Adriano followed Mayah to the dining room.
“Ignore him. We do,” Krista offered as they entered the room.
“Actually princess, I was hoping to take you out today.” he said leaning against the wall.
“Roach isn't hear to ask,” she said not making eye contact with neither Adriano nor Kace.
“It's fine, lets just call him,” suggested Adriano with a smile as he pulled out is cellphone.
“She cant go. She has a project to do,” Kace said dryly glaring at Adriano.
“God Kace, just stop! Enough already,” Krista said trying to ease the tension in the room. “Let him call my dad.”
Kace rolled his eyes as he watched Adriano make the call. He knew that knew that Roach was out with the leader of another club and most likely wouldn't want to be disturbed. With his arms crossed, he tilted his head to the side when he realized Roach had indeed answered. Listening to Adriano’s conversation, he couldn't help but feel jealous. Once Adriano hung up he unfolded his arms and leaned on the back of the dining room chair.
“Well Princess, he said that you are welcome to come with me if you want...Krista too,” he said with a smile staring at Kace. “Kace, he said if the girls want to come, you would be responsible for Krista.”
Kace rolled his eyes as he headed to the closet to get his jacket. “Since Krista’s been dying to get out of here I already know her answer as he walked out the door with the others following.
Once they made it out to Adriano’s limo, Carlos was already outside waiting. “Hurry up get in!” he said excitedly. “We have a lot planned today” Carlos was smiling ear to ear.
The limo ride was uncomfortably quiet. After a while of driving, the car pulled up to Adriano’s house.
“Who lives here?” Krista asked getting out.
“We do,” Carlos simply replied, heading up the steps to the door. “Well, come on.” he instructed.
Walking into the dining hall, Mayah and Krista simultaneously let out a gasp.
“Since you girls aren't allowed to the mall, I brought the mall to you,” Adriano stated stepping past everyone. “Princess, I recall you saying you saying something about shopping and Krista ...your dad said you’ve been begging to get out. Here you go.” He grabbed Mayah’s hand and lead her towards the middle of the room. “I know it's not the mall but under the circumstanc-”
“It’s great Adriano. Thank you,” she said to him giving him a hug. “But it's too much.” Stepping to the side of him she turned back to the room full of clothes, handbags, jewelry and food.
Reaching for her hand again he turned her to look at him lifting her chin. “Princess, please accept my gift. Nothing is too much.”
“Don't worry, she’s accepting,” Krista grabbed Mayah and dragged her to one of the many racks of clothes. “I’m accepting for her,” she giggled.
Adriano nodded with a smile before leading his bodyguards and Kace from the room. The girls tried on clothes for a few hours before finally taking a seat at the table. With a smile Krista set her bags down and pulled Mayah back to her feet. Groaning in protest she pulled back towards the chair.
“Mayah, this is where you were staying?” Kirsta was still pulling on Mayah’s arm. “Lets go look around.”
“Krista, we can't just go snooping around someone's house.”
“Adriano likes you, he won't care. Now come on!”
“Mayah’s right, it's not polite to sneak around.” said Adriano making them both jump. “And Krista’s right, I do like you Mayah.” Giving her a wink, he walked over to the jewelry case. “I trust you both found things you like?” Both girls nodded while Adriano went towards the jewelry case unlocking it. “I have heard that shopping is not complete without jewelry,” he said handing little velvet boxes to both girls.
Feeling flushed, she looked down at the ground not knowing how to respond to Adriano’s admission. With butterflies in her stomach she finally looked up. “Adriano, we can't-” Mayah began before Krista cut her off again.
“Yes, we can Mayah.” she said basically shaking from excitement.
Mayah gave a weak smile before standing up from her chair. “Thank you so much for everything,” she said walking to Adriano. “I don't know how to repay-”
“Princess, gifts aren't to be repaid. They are to be accepted with a smile,” tucking her hair behind her ear he smiled at her.
Hearing a Kace clear his throat from behind them, Mayah pulled away from Adriano. “What the hell is going on?” Kace stormed in the room.
“Nothing Kace. Adriano bought me and Mayah-”
“Shut up Krista,” he hissed glaring daggers at Adriano and then to Mayah. “Roach is on his way back to the house, we need to go.” He grabbed Mayah’s arm and started to drag her towards the door. “Krista, lets go.” Allowing his jealousy to take control he squeezed her arm harder as the image of Adriano touching Mayah flashed in his mind again
“Kace! Ow!” pulling against him with all her strength she yelled as he continued pulling her. “Kace, your hurting me...stop it!”
“Enough!” Adriano grabbed Kace’s hand that gripped Mayah. “Let. Go. Now.” His words were cold and threatening as he stared Kace in the face. When Kace failed to comply, Adriano grabbed squeezed Kace’s arm tighter with one hand while grabbing the front of his shirt with the other. “This is your final warning. Get. Off. Of. Her.” Finally loosening his grip, Mayah pulled away. “Princess, go stand next to Krista.”
The tone of his instructions sent chills up Mayah’s spine. She never heard Adriano sound so scary. She hurried next to Krista and watched in fear not sure what was going to happen next. She knew that Kace had a horrible temper.
“Have you lost your goddamn mind? You will not disrespect my house, my guests or me.” he barked shaking in anger. “If you ever lay another finger on her or hurt her again…” his voice trailed off but he knew he didn't need to finish that sentence. “Leave.” he instructed pushing Kace towards the door.
“Come on, lets-” Kace held his hand out leaning to the side of Adriano gesturing for Mayah and Krista to follow him but Adriano
Adriano stepped to the side blocking his view of the girls. “No, they aren't leaving with you. They will be taken home after you’ve had a chance to calm down.”
Krista took a step towards both men. “Look, Adriano...Kace is right, we should get going.” She knew Kace’s reputation when he was angry. He became reckless and that meant her dad would go back to putting her and Mayah on a short leash. “Kace won't hurt us.” She held her hand out for Mayah to follow her before Adriano moved to intercept.
“Really Krista? What would you call what he just did? I will let Roach know that either he can come here or I will drop you both home but he will lose his hand if he so much as looks at her the wrong way.”
Realizing that Kace wasn't leaving and Adriano wasn't letting them leave with him, Mayah went to Krista’s side. Her eyes met Adriano’s and for a moment she thought she saw the tension melt away from his posture. “Krista’s right. Roach will want Kace near us. He made it clear when we came home.”
“Fine, he can ride the car behind us.” Annoyed that not one but both girls were undermining his decision. “Oh, and before we were rudely interrupted...I took the liberty of getting you both cell phones. Roach and I thought it be best that you have them in case of an emergency.” Storming past Kace, the girls followed silently not sure of what to say.
The ride back to the Devil’s Angels turf was uncomfortably quiet. Both girls exchanged glances while Adriano scrolled through his phone. Once the limo came to a stop in front of the house, the driver opened the door helping both girls out where an already fuming mad Kace stood impatiently. As Adriano stepped out Roach pulled up on his motorcycle.
Kicking down his stand, Roach dismounted the bike looking at the bags of clothes Adriano’s men were unloading from the vehicles. “You said a few things...not the whole damn mall.” Grinning he held his hand out for Adriano to shake.
“Trust me, they still left quite a bit had my estate.”
“They didn't give any problems, did they?” Roach knew something was off by Kace’s demeanor and how unusually quiet Krista was. Especially with shopping involved.
“They didn't...no.” He knew that he didn't have to explain any further about who he was implying. “But I would like to talk to you about today.”
Giving a simple nod, he gestured for Adriano to follow him into the house.
“Great...back to being on lockdown,” was all Krista said as she watched her father close the door to his office. “Way to go Kace!” she hissed stomping up the stairs to her room.
