26 Proving that he is indeed a gentleman, Shay kicks off his flip-flops and plops down on top of the covers. I peel the cool cotton top sheet and light quilt back, kick off my own shoes, and climb into his bed. We both lie perfectly straight and flat on our backs. I can feel the heat emanating from him, even though we aren’t physically touching. The tiny cabin is surprisingly cool, as a fresh, briny sea breeze wafts in through the open windows. It irks me beyond reason when Shay’s breath evens out. He hasn’t had any trouble drifting off to sleep, while I can’t shut my mind off enough to stop thinking about how close we are or what would happen if I reached out to touch him.
