Pain.
Pain was all she felt all over her body when she stirred in her sleep. Her head was hurting like it was being squeezed and expanded by someone, at the same time. Her eyebrows knitted together, and she groaned. Her bottom lip was curled outwards because of the throbbing sensation in her head. Finally, she opened her eyes.
She saw the gray brick wall in front of her. She frowned, and turned her head to the left and right. Grey walls were surrounding her. Avelyn remembered how she was abducted by the masked men. She closed her eyes briefly, in hope of easing the pain in her head. But the constant ache didn’t go away. She wanted to massage her forehead.
That was when she knew that her hands weren’t functioning the way she wanted to. She raised her head, and looked up at the sudden soreness she felt in her wrists and the numbness she felt in her arms. Her hands were chained! She had been dangling from them the whole time!
Her feet were only just touching the ground, but it was more than enough to cause the pain to drive through her physique, from the tip of her toes to the top of her head. It was hurting both in her wrists and the soles of her feet.
She moved her legs to get a better foot hold. A groan escaped her dry lips when she felt the stinging pain in her thigh. She looked down in panic when she was reminded of the bullet that was lying there, and saw the clotted blood on her wounded leg. Her breathing was getting heavy because of the fear she felt. She was suddenly afraid.
Her being a prisoner in this cell meant that Nathan was not able to get to her. She was in her enemy’s hands, at his mercy. Only if they had any pity towards her, that is. She hadn’t been killed. And that was what terrified her. Not being killed after someone kidn*pped her only meant that they had plans for her.
Her chest heaved when she heard the iron lock on the cell door was opening. ‘Should I pretend to be unconscious still?’ But a moment later, she decided against the cowardly thought.
“Well, well, well! Who do we have here?! The infamous Ghost!” The sarcasm was dripping in that voice. She squinted her eyes at the unfamiliar figure.
