TWENTY-SEVEN The pounding on the door brought her awake. For a moment she lay there, disorientated, remnants of a dream meandering through her mind. But the pounding kept coming and she stood up, put her fists in her eyes to remove the last vestiges of sleep and went downstairs. Carson pushed past her, breathless and wet through. The rain beat down outside and she stood in the doorway not knowing what was happening, confused and concerned.
