**It is I**
A wealthy man fears for his riches. A father fears for his family. But one who has lost it all, has nothing to fear.
Those were my consolation each day I awake, and each night I close my eyes to this damned world. The thought of living through this life all alone, haunt me: at times I wonder what it was like at Nod. what were the people actually doing there, and what lead up to the calamity that would wipe out an almost entire race.
A few times I've visited the inner streets, I hear a few hush from the people, particularly those well known to Pete. I wonder if they see me as an evil omen, and wished me to leave the earth just as the others. Some however, look at me with pity. But why should anyone pity me?
I am Lucas, borne out of a race which is no more; the only survivor of a catastrophic incident, why do they think I cannot take care of myself.
I am Luca's, I am not an alien, but I can take care of myself and I will find out what happened to my people.
So, earlier the next morning before the sun will rise, I set out on a journey to visit my home: the home which is now no more but the image of which I could not get out of my mind.
Although Nod, was a settlement that interacted but little with the surrounding community, only a route connect it to the outside world. But haven been left untraveled for ages, it is now indistinguishable from the forest surrounding it. I set out on my journey with a gourd of water and a stale bread, trusting my journey to faith and what ever the forest holds.
After about some hours into the forest, with the sun gradually coming high up in the skies, I think my way I must have lost as the canopies, and the trees so thick and closely pack and despite the position of the sun in the sky,
it left an impression of evening.
I held up my resolve, and continued on, never will I give up I told my self but after some time, nature called and I could move no further but had to find a suitable spot and devour my supplies.
Haven done so, I decided to take a little rest before proceeding on my journey, so I found a tree trunk l, rest my back on and gave way to sleep.
I must have slept for hours because when I awoke, I could not tell where I was for the darkness which stare at me could be felt on my skin.
Confused and greatly frightened, I thought to myself if I was only having a dream and would have wished to awaken and find myself in that old hut.
**A strange voice**
I can swear that I hear something approaching , however, I dare not move for fear of being noticed by whatever it was.
My fears were heightened when I heard the sound approached and suddenly came to a halt. In my fears, I wondered if my end has also reached, if perhaps my race was cursed and only needed time to be wiped off the earth, and if this was the moment, just then I was jolted out of my frenzied thought and froze with shock when I heard,
"Oh! you are finally awake Lucas!"
If it were just a voice, it could have been better. But it was a voice that sounded like a highly polished musical note. Although, I have worked the little village for about fifteen years now, I have never heard a voice as close to this. Just then it occurred to me that the same voice also mentioned my name.
I was perplexed, yet completely unsure what to do or say. Then came the voice again, "You seem to be at a loss, pardon my manners please". Just then out of nowhere, a light shone. A light which had no source, but somehow the place we were was illuminated. I don't know if I should feel relieved but this added to my fears the most and I felt like screaming out my whole chest.
Then, came the voice again, and this time I saw the person behind the voice.
A young girl which appears to be just about my age, long black hair all the way down her waist, with eyes as the morning star and clothed in a garb which seems to be of skin......
Lucas, are you there.....
I opened my lips but the words would not come, I could only stare at her, with my body frozen and as though rooted to the ground.
Just away from me, this strange girl found a suitable spot and sat facing me as she waited for me to regain my composure.
After a while, in a whisper of a voice, I manged a word, "who are you, how come you know my name"?
