Chapter 6: The Instinct to Escape (2)

1024 Words
The eared wolves nodded vigorously and wagged their tails at the patrol -- three wolves immediately charged towards Kane, and the rest escorted Eve to the secret passage. Kane, who was surrounded in the middle, had just broken free from the chain of a Wolf leg when he saw Eve disappear at the entrance of the secret passage. His heart was finally at ease, but the next second Raymond's silver arrow pierced through his right shoulder. "Still dare to be distracted?" Raymond stopped in front of him on a black horse, with the tip of his boots stepping on his Wolf claws. "Surrender now and I'll keep you company with that woman in the cage." Kane's fangs crunched and blood foam dripped down the corner of his mouth. Looking at the silver prison van that was getting closer behind Raymond, he suddenly struck hard - his wolf-claw landed hard on the knee of the nearest guard, seizing the broken chain Eve had dropped earlier and charging towards the secret passage. "Stop him!" As soon as Raymond's roar fell, Kane had already broken through the two guards' obstruction. He knew he couldn't run too far, but he did his best - as long as he could get close to the secret passage, as long as Eve could reach the cave safely, it would be worth getting caught back. The silver arrow flew past his ribs, and Kane trembled in pain, but did not slow down. He could smell Eve's scent wafting through the secret passage and hear the "safety" signal from the deaf Wolf, all like sparks burning his last bit of strength. "Grab it alive! Don't hurt his heart!" Raymond's voice was already behind him, and Kane suddenly rolled down the steep slope beside him - this was his last bet. The slope was full of rubble and thorns, and he held the broken chain that Eve had fallen, allowing the sharp stones to cut through his skin. The guards behind him chased so fast that he fell down one after another, and in the midst of the chaos, two silver arrows accidentally hit his companion. Kane seized the opportunity to get up, his Wolf claws bleeding from the ground, but still charged towards the secret passage with the broken chain in his mouth. As soon as he reached the entrance, he saw the eared Wolf with two patrolmen standing there: "Alpha! Fast forward! We cut off the rear!" Without hesitation, Kane jumped into the secret passage. The passage was pitch-dark, and he could only make his way by the lingering breath of Eve, his ears listening to the sounds outside - until he heard the howling of the wolves and the screams of the vampires mixed together, he dared to slow down. At the end of the secret passage, there was a glimmer of light, and Eve was clinging to the stone at the entrance, waiting for him. Seeing him covered in blood, she suddenly rushed over, and as soon as her fingers touched his wound, they were burned back - the silver poison was still burning his skin. "How did you get hurt like this?" Eve's voice trembled as she pulled out the last silver blood from her pocket and smeared it on his shoulder injury. "I told you not to show off..." Kane's Wolf form fades away and he almost stumbles when he returns to human form. Eve quickly caught him, only to find that his leg was already bloody from the silver chain. "First... Hide in the cave first." Kane's voice was as hoarse as sandpaper, but his gaze was fixed on her. "Raymond... Still searching outside." Eve was carrying him deeper into the cave, and as her fingertips touched the scratch on his back, she suddenly remembered how he had been carrying her away in his mouth - it turned out that this seemingly fierce Wolf had never intended to leave her behind in the first place. The cave was piled up with hay and herbs stored by the wolves. Eve helped Kane sit on the haystack and was about to get the herbs when he grabbed her wrist. "Don't be busy." Kane looked at the strangle on her wrist and moved his Adam's apple, "first... Take a break first." Eve was stunned for a moment, looking at the red blood streaks in his eyes and the unwiped scum of blood, and suddenly laughed: "Aren't you really amazing just now? And dare to go head-to-head with a vampire." "Kane's ears are slightly burning, and don 't face muttering,' Who told them they wanted to catch you... ' The voice was not loud, but it made Eve's heart skip a beat. She looked down at their clasped hands, Kane's palm still burning with silver poison, but clutching her hand tightly. Suddenly the sound of branches swaying outside the hole, Kane tensed up instantly, but Eve held her shoulder down: "Don't panic, it's the wolves of the patrol keeping watch." She sat down close to him, and the warmth of the hay mingled with each other's body temperature dispelled the chill of the escape. Eve, looking at the moonlight seeping through the crevice on the cave roof, suddenly spoke: "Next time you run away, could you please not pick up my collar? It hurts my neck, "she said. Kane's face turned red in an instant and his ears were hot: "I... It was my instinct." "Instinct can be so accurate?" Eve tried to tease him, but saw his ear tip quiver like a puppy that had been caught. She suddenly felt that this chaotic escape wasn't so bad after all - at least there was a fool by her side who would protect her in the shape of a Wolf and blush. The moonlight outside the cave moved a little, just to shine on their clasped hands. Kane's wound was still aching faintly, Eve's wrist still had the marks of chains, but neither of them spoke. They just leaned quietly against each other, listening to the footsteps of the Wolf patrol outside the cave, waiting for the next sun to rise.
