DOUBTS started to fill in Eleand’s mind thinking about the possibility of leaving the Winter Region soon. Why the situation had to be like this? Even there was a constant threat that the High Priestess might kill him in another sparring, his confidence was blossoming that he could give a fair fight these days. Especially that he could wield the fire now, it was a massive improvement for him.
Eleand let out a sigh. He did not hesitate to drink the liquor resting on the table despite his reservations earlier. He hurriedly gulped the beverage from his glass and tasted similar to beer!
He drank, thinking about his high tolerance for alcohol. The sweetness was gently caressing his throat. He lost count of time, and he was overjoyed. At this moment, he felt like he was home.
The three went out, really wasted. They couldn’t even walk straight. It was dusk, and the sun was about to set on the horizon. They had to be back at the temple. If they were caught sneaking out without permission, they might suffer the consequences.
“Thank you for letting me experience this,” Eleand said.
“No worries, Eleand. We are friends now.” Rade said. He was tipsy.
Among them, Rade was sober compared to him and Althy. They caught a lot of attention along the way for their loudness and laughter. They were drunk. However, nobody gave them much scrutiny. Maybe it was customary for them to see a drunk faerie.
Eleand felt giddy when they suddenly vanished and emerged on the roof of one residential house. They sat down and went silent for a while, looking at the horizon where the sun was slowly going down. It was very solemn up there, and they waited to sober up a little.
Eleand could see the Palace of Lights from afar from their location, and the city seemed to be busier at sundown. The buildings around slowly turned on the night lights, and flying cars seemed to traffic into the sky.
“I like it here. Maybe when I’m stronger, I would consider staying here.” Eleand said.
“It’s your choice. But we don’t have the liberty to slack off, especially that this peace is threatened. As a warrior, we pledge our loyalty to our domain and protect it at all costs.” Rade said. He was looking out for Althy, who seemed to be asleep for consuming too much alcohol.
“Yeah, a warrior…” he murmured. Perhaps he could also consider himself as a warrior from Noyuh since Aserah helped him. He should also give back the kindness they gave.
They were all alerted when an unfamiliar voice yelled at them. Even Althy opened his eyes and sat straight as if suddenly aware of what was going on.
“Burglars! Thieves!”
Eleand, along with his companions, looked back. They hurriedly got up when they identified a male faerie wearing battle armor. He stood on a roof deck a few meters away from them. His skin was tan, with clean-cut hair that made his pointed ears prominent. His built was almost the same as theirs.
“Excuse me? We’re just watching the sunset.” Eleand tried to sound apologetic.
Without any warning, the stranger pulled his sword and pointed at them.
“This is my house. Who permitted you to sit on my roof?” he walked near them.
“I don’t know that it’s a big deal.” Eleand laughed and added, “Take it easy. You’re getting aggressive and overreacting for nothing!”
The owner did not listen. While the cousins were just staring at them. They looked amazed at their confrontation. They seemed to be really sober now.
“Go, Eleand! Show him what you’ve got.” Rade tempted him.
“Oh, should I burn him alive?” he thundered to threaten the male faerie.
The reflexes of Althy and Rade were fast. But they were all caught unprepared when the owner attacked them. They immediately jumped, going to the other side of the roof, leaving him alone facing the stranger.
Thankfully, the sword missed. But the owner of the house targeted him. He attacked without halting.
Eleand sobered up a bit now he was in trouble. At this moment, he was grateful for his knowledge of martial arts. He could dodge the physical assault.
The attacker was well-versed in using a sword. He just swerved from one after another strike. While the two seemed like a spectator. They were grinning as if enjoying the show.
“Hey, stop it!” he tried to explain.
But this faerie would not listen.
“You thieves!” The stranger was fuming in anger.
“s**t, don’t make me regret this.” He sidestepped and ducked again. And this time, he planned to use his newly acquired knowledge in fire magic.
Eleand chanted the spells until the blue flame came out from his palm. He witnessed the bewilderment in his opponent’s eyes, and he took advantage of it. He hit him in the face using his blazing fist. The faerie lost his balance and screamed in pain.
Eleand was horrified to see that his punch left a burn mark on the right cheek. The guy tried to get up and looked at him with hatred
“I’m sorry,” he meant it.
Althy and Rade wasted no time. Both of them ran to him and held his shoulder.
They disappeared and emerged into the heart of the city, to the massive open ground near the Palace of Lights.
The three laughed, thinking they escaped unscathed.
But they were wrong. The house owner from earlier emerged. Behind him were argian warriors no less than twenty. Swirling light magic surrounded the place, emitting a large amount of mana.
They were caught!
“Arrest them!” The male faerie ordered while he controlled the magic around. He seemed to be a high-ranking official in Argia.
“Yes, Captain!” All the warriors obeyed.
“This is not good. We could not fight them. We’ll be in deep trouble if we hurt anyone here.” Rade looked around.
“Let’s do our ultimate hack of vanishing. The light magic is preventing us from using the Vanire.” Althy hardly shook his head and repeatedly cursed in faerie language.
“I’m sorry, this is all my fault.” Eleand tried not to panic. They were all surrounded. If only he didn’t punch the guy with his fire magic.
“Identify yourselves!”
“We are from Ve—”
“No, Eleand. We can’t tell them that we are from the Winter Region. Fariyah and Enkille would kill us if they learned that we made trouble here. We sneaked out from the temple, remember?” Althy clenched his fists, and he looked at his cousin, “Rade, are you ready?”
Rade nodded.
The two put one hand to Eleand’s shoulder, and the other formed a hand seal as they chanted short incantations.
A massive blue magic circle emerged above.
The ground shook when they suddenly stood inside a thick ice shield, eliminating the light that surrounded them.
The warriors launched an attack to break the ice.
But the three quickly vanished from sight.
