She yelped. My stomach dropped. I watched in horror as she crumpled to the ground, motionless. "Vic!" I shouted. Luka was at her side in an instant, his eyes darkening. With a flick of his wrist, the witch who hit her froze. She gasped, clutching at her throat, her face twisting in horror as she struggled to breathe. Luka had blocked the air in her lungs. She clawed at her throat, eyes bulging, mouth gaping like a fish out of water. Within seconds, she collapsed, lifeless. I barely registered her death. All I could see was Vic’s unmoving form. Terror gripped me, sinking deep into my chest. Was she— "She’s still breathing!" Luka’s voice rang out, raw and desperate.
