Ted’s pOv.
Sitting in the car, my mind was racing as I struggled to dissipate the lingering smell of Megan that was still messing with my head. Clenching my jaw, I attempt to shake her off from my mind. Despite the familiarity of the leather seat beneath me, her smell was even stronger than it.
“Damn it” I muttered under my breath, running a hand through my blond hair.
“This is ridiculous. Why the f**k I’m still thinking about her?” I glanced out of the car window, looking around to find something to distract myself from those stupid thoughts that were trying to invade my mind.
I hesitantly looked down and could see the bulge in my pants. I groaned loudly.
“Urgh! What the f**k, seriously?!” I’m going crazy. Ugly? That’s what I have been thinking of her. So, how could I be Interested in such an ugly girl?! I had barely ever seen her face because she always keeps her head down. But I still chose her as my secretary, and the secretary with the longest job because she never complained about whatever job I gave her, and no matter how unreasonable I asked. She could always complete it smoothly, even if l asked her to kick out my exes who wreaked havoc in my office. She’s always been loyal, and dependable.
She could efficiently handle a stack of paperwork, and she’s the only one who doesn’t bulk up at my outrageous demands, and that’s why I kept her. I don’t know the reason why she’s been keeping up with my bullshit but I don’t give a damn as long as she’s willing to work for me, even though it seems like she’s scared of me.
Whenever she looked up at me, and our eyes met for a brief moment she would quickly look down again, and her cheeks tinted pink. She’d ask if I needed
Something with her soft and polite voice. All those qualities, yet she’s still not worth being noticed. But I don’t know why my heart made a commotion today, I was quite surprised by the unexpected flutter in my chest.
The only thing that displeases me is her uniform. Her modest and unassuming uniform. It frustrates me. It reaches to her Knees, giving a perception of her as a mere working machine, following orders from everyone without any question. I deemed boring women, and yet, she’s pretty efficient in her role as my secretary, It’s oddly fitting. I cannot deny how suitable she is, her ability to handle tasks effortlessly and faster than any employee is remarkable, even admirable. It always seemed the people in the company all liked her. But do they really like her? Maybe not, they simply take advantage of her and like to bully her, treating her more as a workhorse than a person? Because she handles all their orders without complaining. But if she’s fine with letting everyone walk all over her, I don’t care either.
Sighing, I started the car and began driving. In the elegant atmosphere of the high end restaurant, the headhunter sat across from me.
“I want to make a move to a rival company,” I informed him with a resolute tone. He raised an eyebrow, swirling the wine in his glass before taking a sip.
“You’re aware that this won’t be an easy task, right?”
I nodded. “I understand that there are differences in the corporate cultures, but I’m ready to adapt.” He shook his head. “You’re underestimating the difference between the two companies. Your company does everything in order to make money but the rival company is very strict in selecting customers. The rival company has a reputation for integrity, so they won’t associate with questionable practices, or those with family taints will not work either. Especially a playboy like you, who is not reliable.” My gaze didn’t waver. I’m well aware of my past, I’m a well-known playboy but l’m committed to make a genuine change now.
“IIl work on that. I’m ready for it,” I told him firmly. ”I’ll change my lifestyle.” Amendment filled in his eyes as he leaned back, taking another sip of his wine in a relaxed manner, and sneered at my words.
“You’re telling me you’re ready to leave behind your playboy image, your lavish lifestyle?” My jaw tightened. I half stood up with my hands on the table.
“Yes, that’s exactly what I’m saying. This isn’t just a whim, have thought this through.” I know he was having a hard time believing me but the serious expression on my face told him that I really meant it. Studying me for a moment, he nodded.
“Well, if you’re serious about this, I happen to know an executive within the rival company who’s considering leaving. This could be a chance to prove yourself.” My eyes perked up. Yes! This is my chance to prove myself and make my boss regret not choosing me as a partner. I even stared to dream my boss begging for me to come back as a partner. But how will I convince the rival company? Simply saying that I have changed wouldn’t be enough to convince them. I need to present myself as a completely different person, someone who’s serious doable and dedicated. And then it struck me. I need a way to show that transformation. Maybe what I needed was more than just changing my habits, I needed to change the perception others had of me. And the quickest way to do that, might be through a wife.
Megan’s pov.
I stood outside of the hospital. I had just received news that my aunt’s condition had suddenly turned worse. The doctor informed me that the only solution was surgery. But the cost of the procedure was beyond my reach, leaving me feeling helpless and pathetic.
How should I arrange this large sum of money? Walking away from the hospital, my mind raced with the constant thoughts of getting the money in a short time. But how? I had already used all of my savings in her treatment. And I didn’t know anyone who could help me out, the only relative I have left is my aunt. I can’t let her die, I need to find a solution no matter how unlikely it seems.
