Ted’s pOV.
The next morning, I returned to the office feeling exhausted because I didn’t get enough sleep. Slumping into the chair and I absentmindedly put my legs up on the desk. It’s a bad habit but it calms me down somehow.
Staring at the ceiling, I wondered about all the women I had dated before. But none of them seemed to fit the role of a perfect housewife. Some more faces flash through my head but all of them were unsuitable. Is there not a single good woman that I could marry? Does that even make any sense?
As I was lost in my own thoughts without caring of my surroundings. A brisk knock on the door jolted me back to reality. I quickly swung my legs down and adjusted my posture.
“Come in,” I called out. The door opened showing Megan’s face, looking as professional in her boring dress as ever.
“Good morning, sir,” She greeted me politely with a steady voice. Holding a stack of papers, she looked at me. “The meeting is about to start. Please take a look at these documents and inform me if it needs changing at any point. I’ll try to be quick and change-“
“Stop it, will you?” l grumbled, feeling Irritated without any reason as always. I mean what’s the need for me to be present in the meeting when those bastards are gonna make every decision without any of my suggestions?
“Is there any. Problem, sir?” She asked nervously, looking scared of my expressions. I glared at her and her face turned anxious even more.
“I wanted to have breakfast first.” I informed and watched as she frowned without saying anything. I raised a brow, challenging her to defy me. I know it’s a ridiculous demand right before an important meeting. But to hell with the meeting and this company. I’ve had enough. Now, either they gave me what I deserved for the hard work of all these years or kept up my rebelliousness.
She cleared her throat, before hesitantly telling me. “The meeting is scheduled in ten minutes. It’s an important one, and it’d take at least 20 minutes to prepare breakfast for you.”
“Are you saying I should attend the meeting with an empty stomach, Ms. Megan?” I asked with a displeasing face.
“No, no! What I was saying was that-“she quickly shook her head, apologizing as if she had offended me big time.
“Was what?” I grumbled. She appeared to be having a mental breakdown. I laughed internally, sometimes it’s really enjoyable to mess with her. Her reactions are quite fascinating. Finally, she took a long breath.
“If you had breakfast before the meeting, eating too quickly might cause you stomach pain again. Perhaps it’s best to hold off until after the meeting?” My brow furrowed, I tried not to show any emotion but I was shocked. I never knew she noticed these small details about me.
It’s my habit of rushing through meals because of being busy with work. I had always put my work above everything but I never expected that there was someone else who noticed about my stomach pain.
I stared at her with a stern expression. “Let me make this clear to you. If I make any mistakes during that meeting due to hunger, I won’t hesitate to deduct a portion of your bonus.” She looked terrified but nodded anyway. After she left I went to the meeting as well. Inside the meeting room, the boss began addressing the team. I sat there boredly, not talking much. For the first time, I wasn’t interested in anything they were discussing. I’m going to leave this company anyway so why bother paying attention and wasting my time? But I suddenly became curious when the boss addressed something about the executive.
“An executive of ours had left because he was discovered dating his assistant. As unprofessional as it is, your first priority should be the company and not your office love affairs,” He announced with an angry and disappointed sigh. “Office romances are not allowed in this company so you all better watch your back”
“Office romances, huh?” I scoffed inwardly. I thought about my own assistant. The old-fashioned assistant that I have who could barely see me in the eyes before having a panic attack. Humph! As if this kind of thing would ever happen to me.
I left when the meeting ended, and turned out it wasn’t as important as I thought it would be. It was just to warn all the employees, and I wonder how many breakups it’s gonna cause now. When I returned to my office, to my shock I saw the headhunter chatting with Megan. Seeing them talking casually. Annoyance swept over me and I stomped toward them.
“When did you get here?” l asked him, grabbing their attention. Megan stiffened at my presence, going back to her usual self. Am I that scary or she’s exaggerating because l just saw her talking happily with him? Anger fueled me and I turned to her. “If a guest visits you should sit him in my office and not engage them in your talking. Don’t cross the line.”
“No, no, no please don’t blame her. I was the one who approached her. She was simply doing her job,” He defended her and I saw how her cheeks blushed in shame.
“And you shouldn’t scold a beautiful girl.” For some reason, I didn’t like the way he made that remark about her or the way he was stealing glances at her. Unable to resist the urge, I bluntly said.
“Calling another girl beautiful when you already have a girlfriend isn’t very loyal of you?” He laughed shamelessly.
“Hey, don’t be mad. I was just praising her beauty, that’s all.” Beauty? Is he blind?
“Anyways, you should have informed me before coming here,” I told him as the three of us made our way inside my office. “It would be a problem if the boss sees you here” I said nervously. He looked at me with a knowing smile.
“Don’t worry, Mr. Ted. A little nervousness won’t hurt you. If he finds out, just tell him that I’m a friend of yours.” A chuckle escaped my lips.
“Suppose you’re right.”
