Teds pov “Soo what is it that brings you here today hunter, any new suggestions you got!” I say to him as we enter my office, Megan is the last one to enter and I was so much uncomfortable now that hunters presence seemed to bother me somehow, I didn’t want her to be around him so much. “Would you please get something for our guest Megan” I say as I sit down. “What would you like sir, I got some coffee, a whole bunch of beverages” she says still standing at the door. “I guess a cup of coffee will just be fine, you seem to know me well” he says sending a weak smile at her as she leaves. “That’s a good secretary you got there” I don’t think he noticed me not paying attention but I was already itching for this to be over already. “So, you have already met with their HR executive? I asked curiously leaning forward in my chair and resting my hands on the table in a fist. He nodded, a confident smile playing on his lips “Yes, I have, I went to play a round of golf with him, and during the conversation I randomly mentioned you and lucky for you I made sure to emphasize the positive remarks about you. I told him how much you have changed and are no longer the playboy you were once. Also I mentioned that now you are in a stable relationship. I was stunned to hear how fast he was. It’s astonishing that he had already made a positive impression of me to the rival company. “Thank you, I really appreciate your efforts” I admitted genuinely But then his expression grew more serious which made me nervous. “However, he continued. “I hope you won’t use your past relationships or any ex as a shield and ruin everything I have worked hard for. For this to work convincingly, at least find a girl who has the same image as your assistant Megan.” “What?” I frowned in disbelief. Same image as Megan? Is he serious? What had he seen in her that I was unable to see all these years? “Yes, I have talked to her and may I say she’s really amazing. Dignified and proper. You should find someone like her, a perfect wife material. “No, no way, you’re kidding me right?” I could barely laugh out. I was having a hard time comprehending his words, a knock at the door interrupted us. “Come in” Megan entered with a tray of breakfast and coffee. She entered further, her head lowered as always. “Sorry to disturb you sir, here is your breakfast.” The headhunter looked between me and her with a meaningful gaze. She offered him his coffee and me my breakfast. “Thank you” he smiled eyes anywhere but on her. She walks and leaves. He watched as she went out, I observed their exchange of conversation with a raised eyebrow and I didn’t think I liked it. What exactly is he trying to do when he already has a girlfriend? But I decided to ignore it because I had more important things to work on. “Well I think I forgot to mention something to you” he says and I put on that serious face. “What is it?” I ask him without hesitating. “You know sir this is a very crucial step you are about to take and I am the only one capable of taking you through this and I really hope you’ve made a good investment in this step” “Okay, let me get this straight, are you talking about your payment Mr. hunter” I cough out the words as soon as I realized this was about his money. “This is not the first time I am doing business with you Mr. Hunter, it’s so concerning that you really have to ask for this now” I say to him taking out my cheaque book. He takes a sip and says “Don’t get this wrong Mr. Ted, I only want the best out of this and asking for this money will only be of much help to the both of us, I need to take care of some businesses as you do what we talked about” he says and I go on to write the check and give it to him. He looks at it and smiles. He shakes my hand as I get up “Well I think we are done here sir, I’ll make a call to see how things are going on” I say shaking his hand, he gets up noticing I couldn’t let him finish his coffee. “This is some nice coffee, I really like it” he says before leaving. “Well you can carry it along” I say to him. After the headhunter left I wrestled with my thought of finding a fake girlfriend. I have so many options but none of them are worth it. Suddenly I thought of the hunters words because I just couldn’t shake this nagging feeling of what he suggested about Megan. Would she be really able to play the role of my fake girlfriend? And knowing her I don’t think she’d ever snitch on me either, but it just don’t feel right. No she can’t be the one, there’s got to be some other choice. However, no matter how much my mind raced with options, faces and names, each dismissed for one reason or another and stopped on her. Urrgh!! I’ll lose my mind at this point. I decided to go to the gym, the only way I could get rid of this stress. I walk out of my office my mind filled with unending thoughts, I couldn’t believe what was happening to me and I had to figure it out in the quickest way possible. I walk and come to Megans office and this just gave me some chills on my skin when I lay my eyes on her, she notices me approaching and gets busy on her computer. Megan POV I continued to search for some part time jobs online, my brows furrowed as I scrolled through listings, but the only high paying jobs I found were all stripers in nightclubs. My aunt would never allow me to do this kinds of jobs even if I was to do it to pay her bills. I stop when I see Mr. Ted standing next to my desk and I stand quickly. “You’re leaving sir?” I ask as I try not to look him in the eye. “Yeah, I have to rush somewhere” He says to me and I was astonished by his tone, he was so calm and sounded a bit friendly if I wasn’t wrong. “Would you please take out the utensils from my office” he says. “Yeah sure” I quickly rush and take out the tray from his office, he was still standing at the door and the thought of explaining to him about my aunt suddenly came to me since he looked like he was in a better mood. This might be the only chance I have to talk to him about my sick aunt but I just couldn’t find the words let alone the courage, I trembled as he stood there holding on the door knob, I really wish he could help me out with this but what will he think of me if I decide to ask him for that huge amount of money, he had money, a lot of money that he manages to pay the headhunter a huge some of it without even stressing about it. “Megan!!” he shouts my name and I gasp as I jump out of my thoughts. “Is there anything else, I need to leave and you’ve been standing there for seconds without saying anything, what’s wrong with you” He says to me. “Nothing sir, I … I ... just wanted to say, I am sorry for letting in the headhunter without your permission earlier, I realized you was pissed and I really am sorry about that” I don’t know where all this words came from but I found myself saying this. He scoffs and locks the door “Get to work Megan, its good you realize your mistakes this days and don’t repeat it again if you want to keep your job” He says and walks away. I wished I could follow him and beg him for the money but that is not just the way to do it. I walk to my desk with some calmness in my heart, I have never seen him this friendly to me, maybe he had bagged a good deal with the headhunter, who knows?
