Chapter 20: Box StepMy back is against the wall—literally. I’m on the outskirts of the crowd, not because Jaime doesn’t want me with him, but because they took him away from me. Some ugly lady with too much cheap perfume approached, and he seemed like he knew her because he went easily, glancing quickly at me over his shoulder. I’m still trying to figure out what happened, but the crowd of guests is slowly making their way towards a stage of sorts, and after the lights dim, that same ugly woman walks onto the stage, making a microphone shriek.
She introduces herself, and I can’t fully comprehend what’s happening until a man in a red suit appears on stage, and the ugly woman lists his characteristics as if we’re on a reality television show.
