The Truth

"...So close to being in love, if I would have known that you wanted me..."- Ariana Grande, Almost Is Never Enough. Sophia couldn't stop smiling the next day. She had woken up with a beaming smile remembering the night before with Silas.  When they had gotten done with their fun run through the demented woods, they were stopped by a smiling Jordan and Kassidy. "Our Gemini Sophia. But who is this?" Jordan asked amused looking at Silas. Silas smirked and looked at Sophia, "Her man, just wanted to make sure she got home alright."  Kassidy chuckled as she looked at Sophia, "Well you know the rules. Now kiss your honey good night, we have class in the morning."  Pouting up at Silas not wanting him to leave, Sophia grinned when he stroked her cheeks gently, "Alright beautiful don't make me bring down the castle. I'll be seeing you VERY soon."  Kissing him bye, Sophia watched him go and looked to Kassidy who was blushing looking at her smirking mate, "Feels good huh?" Sophia looked at her confused until she realized Kassidy was referring to their mates.  "Yeah, it does."  Sophia had then gone to her dorm, took a hot shower, and then got changed into her sleeping shorts and tank. When Topaz came in lips swollen and eyes glazy, she giggled, "So you enjoyed your run to?"  Topaz laughed as she sat down in her bed, "That adrenaline rush that kicked in."  Sophia knew what her friend meant because she had felt it. Her heart pounding, her thighs clenching together in need as her mate panted at her. After running for miles neither were tired or even scared of the unknown entities running wild in the woods.  Instead, all they had cared about was the other. It just made the danger all the more hotter.  Kissing, touching, and begging for more under the crescent moon, both spent a good amount of their time together fighting the urge jumping each other's bones.  "It was perfect." As Topaz got comfortable and Sophia rolled one for them, her friend turned to her and sincerely said, "On a sour note though...no more putting it off babes, you got to talk to Ezra."  Sophia hadn't fought Topaz either.  She had noticed that after Silas appeared, he had immediately shrunk back into the background. She had felt bad of course, but her mind had been selfishly consumed with her mate.  But with a Silas clear head, Sophia knew she couldn't afford to avoid the inevitable conversation.  The next day in potions as she stirred her cauldron as she wondered how she'd approach the matter. Cool and casual? Sympathetic and regretful? Or just come out with it on the spot? When she was done with her potion, she put it in a vile and took it up to her professor.  Professor Karassimi smiled at her as he looked over her vile. The Indian descendant witch with his big brown eyes smiled at her with his Colgate smile. His long glossy black hair pulled back into a low pony. "Thank you Ms. Lightwood," Sophia smiled and grabbed her bag.  Leaving out of the class, Sophia walked through the courtyard and to the back of the school. Sitting on the hill under a large tree, Ezra sat by himself chewing an apple.  Walking to him, Sophia sat down across from him as the wind whipped her hair in her face.  Ezra glanced at Sophia as her big brown eyes looked at him for understanding. She wanted to understand why he was acting so weird, and why he had been a d**k last night to her little friend. Not wanting to beat around the bush, Erza demanded to know, "Why did you start hanging out with him last night? I thought we were having fun, and then suddenly I'm the fifth wheel."  Sophia sighed, "I'm sorry Ezra." Ezra rolled his eyes, "Don't! Don't apologize to me! Just..." Ezra exhaled before looking into her eyes trying to be strong, "Just tell me. Do you like me? As more than a friend?"  Sophia looked at him sadly before slowly shaking her head as Ezra looked at her confused, "Why? I mean I thought I was a pretty good guy. I brought you food, told you jokes, helped you study. It's always felt easy for us to get along. But then last night you ran off with that wolf without even considering my feelings."  Sophia knew that was true. She had been drunk on more than just the strong booze, but also on Silas himself. He had made her high on his presence like a good joint and made her forget everyone around her.  Including the friend she was unintentional but still selfishly hurting.  Exhaling Sophia just spoke from the heart, "Ezra, you were one of my first friends I made when I started Sphynx Prep. I love you as a friend," Ezra looked at her in pain as she admitted, "But I never felt more than that for you. I tried, but it felt like I trying to shove to jigsaw pieces together that didn't fit right." Swallowing hard Sophia ripped the band-aid off, "That wolf, Silas, he's my mate. I met him before, a couple of weeks back. We were having a rocky start, but now we're together."  Ezra huffed bitterly, "Just my luck."  Sophia couldn't stop the lump in her throat and whispered, "Ezra..." Ezra shook his head, "No, okay? Just...I need time. Okay? I won't...I can't hang out with you. I can't see you and it just be..." Ezra laughed mockingly at himself, "I'm pathetic. I knew you didn't like me, I kept trying to convince myself you were just unsure of my feelings. I'm a joke."  Sophia started to deny that but Ezra looked at her with a pained look in his eyes, "I knew you didn't like me. I let myself believe as long as you were single, I had a shot. But now you have a mate, and come to find out I never stood a chance."  Standing Ezra muttered, "I'm not mad at you, it just hurts to be around you." Sophia watched Ezra walk away and almost screamed hating herself.  She hated the whole situation, it sucked.  It really f*****g sucked.  And from there it seemed the post mate bliss of seeing Silas seemed to get rocks hurled at it. Christopher had come at her annoyed with her rejecting his best friend. To which she reminded him she didn't owe Ezra anything and she was mated for someone else.  Christopher backed off then of course. But his disproval of the situation that put all their friendships in was known.  When Sophia was heading up to her room after a grueling day she was surprised when Ezra came charging at her. "I thought you said that guy was your mate?" He commanded angrily. "Um, what?"  Ezra scoffed, "That wolf from last night. Alpha Silas Apollo. He's going through some chosen mating ritual so I know you lied. You didn't have to, I'm not that desperate."  Before Sophia could come up with a word to reply back to that, Ezra stomped off with a terse, "You know what? I'm glad you don't like me, you're not who I thought you were." Sophia felt even more drained and hurt as she dragged her way up the stairs.  Laying in bed smoking a joint, Sophia didn't move when Topaz came in and laid her head on her thigh. "So I heard...not good?"  Sophia shook her head, "Horrible. And even worse...he told me Silas was going through a chosen mating ritual. Meaning a mate he's chosen and will put through tests to be his mate."  Topaz hummed, "But he did NOT seem interested in rejecting you babes. And wolves don't share, too territorial."  Sophia sighed, "I'm honestly not into all this drama!" Topaz laughed as she accepted the joint from her, "Well, you got it, babes. Now as for Ezra, I do believe it is his pride getting to him. He'll be fine sooner or later, hopefully, sooner. But in the meantime what are you going to do about Silas?" Sophia shrugged as Topaz passed her joint back, "Confront him."
