ASHER
I was lost in my thoughts about the happenings last week. Zay was kidnapped by someone named Spider. The same person gave clues to whereabouts of Zay, but in the end, we did not found Zay. He told us he let her loose. The game we just played that time is a remembrance for me, a sort of a warning, that he's in control of everything. He is also the mind in everything that happened in our campus.
If so, then, there will be certainly more of that in the near future. As long as he is free and loose, I'm sure the killing and crimes and bad happenings in our campus will not stop.
"You're in daze again." I heard someone said beside me. I turned and saw Silver there, leaning on the chair beside me. I look up to him.
"I'm thinking about what happened last week. I have this nagging feeling about it." I told him. He did not answer.
"It seems, there will be chaos in this campus. I'm sure that as long as he is on the loose, this campus will not have the freedom and peace it deserves as a place for learning. I'm sure of that." I told him.
"But, we can do nothing for now. We don't have any lead to follow to that person. We can't track him with that card he used for surely, he already disposed it. I'm sure he's not that dumb to let that card be the reason for us to track him." Silver said beside me. Yes, I agree.
How can we start this investigation? Where should we start?
I fell silent as I think of the possible start we can do in this case. Think...think...think!!
Then, someone popped inside my head.
"I think we have something to start on." I told him with a smirk. I saw his expression changed into confusion.
"What is it?" he asked. Then, we heard voices coming from the door of our classroom. Zay, Zandra and Zyra, the three best friends entered the room laughing to each other. Silver and I gave a knowing look at each other as both have smirks plastered upon our faces.
Now, we're now on the same page. We must question that person as to what she knew about the crime. I remembered her telling us that someone just gave her the keypad phone where the man, calling himself Spider, contacted us. And we must have her full account of that thing to start this investigation.
★★★
Lunch break arrived and we're now inside our clubroom. Zandra is sitting in front of me. Beside me is Silver and beside her is Zay. I can see the confusion and nervousness plastered upon the face of Zandra.
"W-What am I here for?" Zandra asked as she eyed the three of us. Her gaze stopped at mine.
"We invited you here to discuss something." I told her. Her brows knitted upon hearing my remark.
"What is that?" she asked. I can feel she's nervous in front of us. Our looks made her uncomfortable. I cleared my throat before answering her.
"It's about the abduction of Zay. You told us that the phone you gave us was just handed to you by a man. And we thought that man is somewhat connected in the abduction of Zay. We want to hear your full account about that man." I told her. I saw her face relaxed upon hearing our wants to her. She nodded at us.
"I'll tell you the story." she said and arranged her seat in front of us. We just listened to her narration.
"I was walking towards the cafeteria, thinking about where could I find Zay. I'm worried because I did not see her in class. I'm thinking of possible locations I might find Zay but uddenly, a man appeared. I told you already, he has eyeglasses and a messy hair. His height is like yours, I think, or like Silver's. Based on his patch, he's a grade eleven student like us. I failed to see her nametag, but I had my fair share on looking at his eyes. They're somewhat weird, but cool at the same time." he said. I frowned.
"Cool? How so?" Silver asked. I glance at Zay. She's listening intently to her friend's story. I can also see the fire in her eyes, as if she's determined to know the mind behind her abduction.
"His eyes have two different colors. One is hazel brown and the other gray. It's weird, but it's kinda cool." he said. My brows knitted upon hearing that description. Two different eye colors? Is that possible?
"Are you sure with that?" I asked. She nodded.
"Yes. I cannot be mistaken. That's another thing I noticed to him besides his also weird voice."
"Weird voice?" I repeated. She nodded again.
"His voice is somewhat hoarse and so cold. It somewhat coarsed and vibrating as if he is shivering." she said. I fell in deep thought about her revelations to us. Masked man, with two different eye colors and hoarse voice. Where can I find such man? Grade eleven student? If so, then I should start my search in our batch for the same kind of person. But, so far, I found no one with the same description to her description of that man, especially, his eyes. I found no one from our batch with two different eye colors.
"What did he do after he gave you the phone?" I asked.
"He left. He leave quickly. I failed to follow him because of the shock of the news I was told.He just told me to give you that phone. I cannot think straight that time for panic started to creep in me and thought it is better to ask for your help already, for I know you are the people who can really help me." she answered.
So, she didn't have more time to interact with that person. This will be hard. I don't have enough facts to start with, just her description. And those description can be altered by external acts of the killer himself. His eyes can be from contact lenses, his voice is from a voice changing device. With that, his identity is easily hidden. Argh! Cunning madman!
"Is there any more information you can add?" Silver asked. I think he found me deep in thought that's why he's the one who asked Zandra. Zandra shook her head.
"Sorry, but that's all I know and can say. I'm sorry." she said and her face softened and saddened. Zay cheered her up.
"Hey! That's fine. You've been a big help for us, especially for saving me. And the additional information you provided us shed more light in the case. So don't worry, you've been very useful." Zay told her and hug her friend. Zandra's face lightened upon hearing that. She smiled to Zay and to us. I stood up.
"Thank you for your time and cooperation. That helped us a lot. Through your words, we already have a definite lead to whom that person named Spider is. Thank you. You may now go back to your class." I told her and nodded to Zay. Zay got my signal and she stood up with her friend and she guided her out of the room.
I immediately went to my seat and took out a piece of paper and a pen and started to jot down notes that I gathered when Zandra narrated her account about the man who gave the phone when Zay was abducted. And I took a deep breathe upon seeing the three words I made as our initial start, eyes, voice, batchmate.
We cannot really rely in this pieces of details we have. Those points can be easily made or manipulated for disguising purposes. Goodness! These are no use to us!
"What happened? Found any loose thread we can use to track that guy?" I heard Silver asked. I lean onto my chair as I slowly shook my head at him.
"No. I found none that can help us. There is no single point that can be used as a good starting point for our investigation. Nothing definite." I told him. His brows knitted upon hearing my remark.
"The eyes, the voice, we can use those details to identify who that person is. We can use that to start the investigation and it can help us a lot for we can easily narrow down our search in our batch." he ejaculated. I shook my head again.
"No. Those points can be fraud details. The eyes. That can be manipulated by contact lenses. The voice, I'm sure he's using a voice changing device. I just don't know where he hide that device and the patch, that can be a stolen patch. Besides, so far, I found no one that match the same description as that man. We're doomed." I said and massage my temple as I try to squeeze more from what I heard from Zandra.
"Maybe I can help." I heard Zay's voice echoed in the room. I opened my eyes and saw Zay sitting in front of me and Silver. We're now sitting in circle with each other.
"What do you mean?" I asked her. She lean onto her chair and answer my question.
"Maybe I can give details as to what happened to me before, during and after I was abducted." I looked up to her.
"Yes! I almost forgot about you! Can you tell us what happened to you that time?" I asked her. She scowled first before answering.
"Well, that time, Zandra, Zyra and I went to cafeteria to buy food. But I went first to girl's room. I first went to toilet and let them go without me. That's the time when I was divided from them.
"I remember that no one was in the toilet the time I went there. I used the third cubicle. Then, while I am doing my things inside the cubicle, I heard the toilet's door opened. Then, I heard the cubicle's door, adjacent to what I'm using opened–" she said. I stopped her for a question.
"You're in the third cubicle, right? As far as I can remember, the toilets only have three cubicles. That means whoever entered the toilet after you went for the second cubicle. Am I right?" Zay nodded.
"Pray continue."
"Then, while I'm inside the cubicle, I heard something strange. Like something was being sprayed. That time, I'm finished and went out of the cubicle. I went to fix myself. But then, I started to smell something weird. And, a few seconds later, I felt drowsy. Then, my vision blurred and spin.
"That time, I know I'm drugged. Then, I saw a silhouette. I can't see the face because of the mask it's wearing, but I know it's a girl. She's talking to someone on the phone, but I failed to hear the words and her voice clearly. But, I saw her eyes through her mask. Her eyes were one black and one blue." she said. Silver and I just listened to her with an utmost alertness.
"One of her eyes is blue?" Silver asked. Zay nodded.
"That's what I saw. I failed to look at her name tag because her hair covered it, but I saw her patch. She's a batchmate of ours." she said. I fell in deep thought after hearing her account.
Someone with two different colors of eyes again. What does that mean? The first is the man who gave the phone to us. And now, this lady Zay is talking about. What does that mean?
"Another set of two different eye colors. First, the man who gave Zandra the phone and the lady you are talking about. It seems I can see a similarity on both person." I told them. Silver and Zay look at me intently. I can see we all have one thing in mind.
"It's their eyes." we all said in chorus, with smirks upon our faces. I saw the glint of excitement in Silver's eyes while burning desire in Zay's eyes was evident.
"If that's the case, we can assume that all of those people connected to that man, Spider, has the same peculiarities." Silver said. I nodded.
"And that's the color of their eyes." I said. Zay spoke next.
"If so, then we must find people with the same kind of peculiarities."
"But so far, I found none." Silver commented. I stood up from my seat.
"Well, at least we have something to start on. We can't close the possibility that we will find someone with the same peculiarity in our batch. Also, on other part of the campus." I said as I arrange my things. They both nodded.
At this point, I can see a very significant similarity on Zay's account and Zandra's account. And that is both of the people they'd encountered that were believed to be connected on Zay's abduction have the same peculiarities, their eyes.
Silver and Zay decided to leave the clubroom for the next period while I stayed. I still need to do something.
Then, I heard a vibration. My eyes immediately fell on my desk in front of me, where the keypad phone given to us was placed on top. We did not disposed it for we thought we might use it again. There's this familiar name again flashing in the screen, Spider.
I immediately picked up the phone. I noticed that the number is now different, but it was saved on this phone's contact under the name Spider. In fact, the phone has many contacts in it, all named with Spider. I examined it last time.
"What do you want?" I said upon answering the phone. Silence greeted me. Then I heard the same cold, hoarse voice just like the last time.
"Good afternoon Mr. Detective. How's the case? Did you already establish something that you can use as lead to me?" he asked, with a mocking voice. I answered him sternly.
"Well, we already established one. Don't worry, we will catch you soon."
"How confident. I like that! I love that kind of attitude! This made our game more exciting, don't you think? Anyways, it's cold today. Continuous rain. I suppose you can check out the quadrangle and see the swarming people with umbrella. Who knows someone will die there. You should have eyes everywhere like me. I have eight eyes. And those eyes were so loyal to me. They don't deceive me."
"What do you mean?" I asked, brows knitted.
"I mean everything what I say. If you want to save the life of that man, you must stop someone to kill him under the rain. Good luck!" then he hung up, leaving me confused. What does he meant by that?
Then, his last remarks sunk in to my brain. Someone is going to kill someone! I must stop that!
I immediately went out of our clubroom and looked at the quadrangle. I saw bunch of students walking with their umbrellas. I can't see their faces because of their umbrellas blocking the view. Goodness! Who is the target among these people?!
I looked at everyone, trying to see someone acting strange. I am trying to see someone who's following someone or anything that can say that he's into someone.
I roamed my eyes upon the quadrangle, looking intently at everyone. There were bunch of students there, holding their umbrellas, going to every directions. The scene was very chaotic that I can't assess their body languages. Argh! This is not good!
I took my phone out from my pocket and immediately dialed Zay. I heard three rings before she answered.
"Hello? Who's this?" she asked.
"Zay! It's me, Ash. I need your help! The Spider called again through the keypad phone. He told me a crime will happen under the rain. I'm here now, at the administration building, watching the quadrangle. I need you here. Hu–" my sentence was cut by a shrill scream that sounded throughout the whole quadrangle.
"KYAAAAAHHHH!!!" a scream of a woman. My jaw tightened upon hearing the scream.
"W-What is that scream?"
"Come here at once! Bring Silver!" I said and hung up the phone. I immediately run towards the origin of the scream.
On the other side of the quadrangle, I saw bunch of students crowding something. I rushed toward it and pushed myself through the crowd of students as my mind was flooded with questions.
What happened? What is it now? Who was killed and how? And, can I still solve it if ever it was another case?
After few pushes, I finally arrived on the front. My eyes immediately fell on the thing on the cemented ground. My eyes widened upon seeing a man, lying in front of me, lifeless, blood oozes from his neck. He's face is on the ground, and his umbrella was above him, still held by his hand.
"Don't go any closer to the body! Move back! Call the faculty and police!" I yelled. The students immediately acted upon my order while I started to check on the body of the victim.
I first examined his wound. His wound was on his right part of his neck, long and deep. Blood oozes from it. It was a fatal wound. Beside that wound, there's no more wound on the victim. The wound seems to start from under his right side of his chin and extends under his right jaw. The victim is a young man, with the same height as mine, white in color and good in built. I can say he's capable of playing sports.
"Goodness!" I heard someone gasped. Zay and Silver were already here. They were both shocked upon seeing the body in front of me.
"What happened to him?!" Silver remarked. I shrugged.
"I don't know. But, I know a certain thing. He was killed by someone connected to the Spider, under this heavy rain." I said. I look at the body as my mind wanders somewhere else.
What happened to him? How he was killed? I can swear with my life that I saw none who holds a knife that can kill him by slashing his neck. I never left my eyes off the quadrangle. So, how is this possible? How he was killed?
"You are here earlier, right? Then you ought to have seen something or someone who did this to him." I heard Zay asked. I shook my head.
"That's what puzzles me. How he was killed? I never saw anyone with a knife walking on this place from the time I started to supervise the place. No one can kill him through cutting his throat. I never left my eyes off this place or I could have stopped this crime. Honestly, I don't know how he was killed." I answered with utmost honesty.
"Maybe someone who's in this place can answer that question. That girl who's crying over there, maybe she saw something." Silver said and pointed a girl who was sitting on the ground, eyes wide open and shaking as she eye the body of the victim. I can see fear and surprise upon her face.
"Let's talk to her later." I told them. The faculty arrived a minute later followed by the police few minutes later.
Inspector Mar lead the investigation. They started to conduct their examination of the place and the body of the victim under the rain. After their initial examination of the body, they immediately turned over the body to the police medical for them to deliver it to the morgue. We listened to their findings about the case.
"The victim's name is Gilbert Santos. He's a grade ten student and a member of your basketball varsity team. He was a player with such a good reputation being a player. He's also a potential captain ball of your campus' varsity. Many girls liked him because of his attributes that really draws their attentions to him." Inspector Mar said as he read his notes about the victim. Silver, Zay and I just listened to him. Well, my initial assessment about the victim is somewhat correct.
"Did you already talked with the friends of the victim?" I asked. Inspector Mar shook his head.
"Not yet. As far as I know, the only friends he has is his friends in the varsity team." he said. We all fell silent, only the sound of the air-conditioning of the faculty office can be heard. My mind wanders to the possible scenarios about the case.
"Did you already find the murder weapon?" I asked. The inspector shook his head.
"Unfortunately, we found no trace of any murder weapon. We can't find any sharp weapon that can be used to execute the murder. We're clueless about the murder weapon used." Inspector Mar said truthfully. I'm not surprised by that since even I found no murder weapon around the crime scene.
"If so, then the culprit must have it still in his hands." Silver remarked. We all agreed to him.
"Did you already talked to any potential eyewitnesses of the crime?" I asked. The inspector shook his head.
"For now, not yet. But we already have an eyewitness that can tell us something more about the case." we all looked at the place the inspector pointed. On a corner of the room, I saw the same girl that I saw earlier on the crime scene. She's wet because of the rain, sobbing and shaking. Her mouth move slightly as if she's mumbling something to herself. She's familiar, too.
"Julee?" I heard Zay said. The crying lady diverted her gaze to us. Then, upon seeing Zay, she immediately run to her and clung to her arms. Inspector Mar, Silver and I looked at each other with confusion and questions upon our faces.
"You know her?" Silver asked.
"How?" I added. Zay glared at us and rolled her eyes onto us.
"Really?! You two?! You didn't recognize her?!" she said as she eyed us in disbelief. We just shrugged at her.
"She's familiar but I can't remember where did I see her." Silver said.
"Same here. I just know that she has a retentive memory based on her actions. She's trying to clear her mind from the crime she had seen." I said. The lady, named Julee, looked at me as if she's assessing me.
"She's our classmate! Julee Reyes! The cousin of Zandra! The top three student! Really?! You two don't know who your classmates are?! You're impossible!" she said as she rolled her eyes on us. We just shrugged. Now, I know her. That's why she's familiar to me. She's a classmate of mine. I assess the girl clung on Zay's arm.
She's a fine girl, with white skin and chinky eyes. Her hair is straight that extends under her shoulder. She has thin lips that was perfectly shaped. Her eyes were keen. She's slender too.
"Can you tell us what happened, Julee?" Zay asked. The sobbing girl answered her, still between her sobs.
"S-Someone died! H-He died in front of me! Goodness, please help! Someone died!" she exclaimed and tugged her hair so hard that Zay screamed upon seeing her on that state. I can see the dread and horrible look upon her. As I thought, she has a retentive memory. And she's trying to get the crime scene off her mind. That is a pure trauma.
"Stop that. It won't help. But if you really want to help, tell us what you saw." Zay asked once again. Julee answered her.
"I was walking, reviewing for our upcoming exam that time. I-I don't really bother anyone around me f-for I am preoccupied by our lectures. B-But there's this one time that I lift my gaze from my notes, and th-that is the time I saw him. He walking pass me in an opposite way. Then, there came another person who went ahead of me. I tried to look him at his face b-but waters hit my eyes that made me close them. Then when I opened my eyes, here it was, a bleeding body and a pool of blood!" Julee answered. All of us looked at each other upon hearing her narration
"Did you see the features of the man in front of you? Is he holding any weapon that can be used for this crime?" Zay asked. Julee shook her head.
"Did the man attack the second man?" I asked. Julee shook her head again. Silver, Zay and I exchanged knowing looks. Inspector Mar just listened to her testimony.
"Your eyes suddenly closed because of waters hitting your eyes? Is it as if someone sprayed some water on your face and hit your eyes?" Silver asked. Julee nodded again.
"I-It's like the raindrops came directly to my eyes. T-That's it! It is as if someone sprayed water on my face.." she said. I fell in deep thought upon hearing her testimony.
"Can you tell us the feature of the man in front of you?" I asked. Julee look at me, as she started to answer my question.
"H-He's shorter than you. Maybe, a bit taller than me. I did not saw his face. But I saw his shoe. It is a pair of black Topsiders. He is well-built. I-I saw the dead man smiled to the man in front of me before I felt the water splashed to my face." she said. I thought of the possible scenarios I can come up base on her testimony.
She saw the victim smiled to the man in front of her. Water seemed splashed to her face and after that, she just saw the victim bleeding and critical. The man in front of her has no knives or weapons or anything and did not attack the victim. But, that man is suspicious too. The crime committed upon his crossing with the victim. What does that mean? How the victim was killed? And who did it?
"Any idea about the case?" Silver asked beside me. I looked up to him.
"Well, not that impossible, but the most probable solution I can come up. We must see the people the victim knew. They can help us in this case." I said. He nodded to me.
This case is nearing its end.
★★★
Silver and I decided to conduct our own investigation. I let the inspector do his duties on its due process while we move on our own course of action. Silver and I invited the whole basketball varsity team inside our clubroom. They're all gloomy upon hearing the news of their friend's death.
We already took their names, their connection and history with the victim. And they all ended in one similar ending. That they're all far from the crime scene.
"It is possible that it was a classmate of the victim the one he came pass with.." Silver whispered to me. But I'm not convinced by that. I remembered Inspector Mar mentioned that he's not that sociable and his only friends were his teammates. I can feel someone is lying here. But who?
I eyed the eleven men here, all well-built and capable of doing such things. I also saw the framed up guy on the fake murder case. I already forgot his name.
Then, I suddenly realized, I can do process of elimination in this case. I obtained some information from Julee earlier. I can use that to narrow down my suspects here.
I eyed the eleven players in front of us. First, the height difference. Julee told us that the man in front of her is shorter than me and a bit taller than her. I smirked upon narrowing down the possible suspects. From eleven, down to six.
Next is the man in front of her uses Topsiders shoes. And fortunately, there were three of them in that kind of shoes. The six suspects narrowed to three.
Then, black shoes. But, in my dismay, no one here wears black Topsiders. There were red, dark blue and dark green. What does that mean? That the killer isn't here with us?
"What's next, Asher?" Silver asked.
"Can we go now?" Antonio, the man in red Topsiders shoes, said.
"We still.have classes.." Jordan, the man in dark blue Topsiders, said.
"Yes. And mind you, we still have quiz to take." King, the man in dark green Topsiders, said. I did not answer them, as I concentrate on the facts that I have. Then suddenly, a victorious smirk contoured my face.
I see. Now, I see how it was done. It's that man after all.
"I think, you don't want to leave, not now that the case of your friend's death was solved." I said. All of them stopped on their talks and focus their gazes to me. I eyed each of them sternly, looking deep into their souls.
"Are you sure? That fast?" King asked. I smirked at him.
"Certainly. I already know how Gilbert was killed, the trick of the murder, and who is the killer." I said. They all gasped upon hearing my remarks. Silver just watch me. He did not say a thing.
"Then who called him?!" Jonathan, the current captain ball of the team asked eagerly. I can see the fire in his eyes for the truth.
"Well, the very person who killed your friend is..." I pointed the only man who could have committed the crime. "You, Jordan Michaels." I heard gasps upon my pointing to my culprit. His expression, from surprised, immediately turned to anger upon my words sunk in his mind.
"What are you saying?! That's absurd! How can I kill him when I'm in the cr when he was killed?!" he exclaimed. I can see his rage upon his face.
"Well, that alibi of yours can be fabricated. No one can support your alibi. Let me tell you all what Jordan did as he commit the crime." I said. I walked back and forth in front of them as I lay before them what happened on the case of Gilbert Santos.
"The victim died due to the cut upon his neck. That was a fatal one. But no one attacked him that time. No one saw he was attacked. That means he was killed in another way that will not attract so much of attention.
"Gilbert was killed on the quadrangle, under the rain, in the middle of swarming students with umbrellas. And that condition was used by Jordan to his advantage as he commit the murder. First, he waited until he saw Gilbert crossing the quadrangle in the middle of the crowd with his umbrella. Then, he will crossroads will Gilbert. His umbrella has two purposes in this crime. First, as the murder weapon, second as covering for his face.
"A witness, the very lady behind Jordan, told us that he saw Gilbert smiled on the man in front of her before she felt some waters hit her face. Then after the water hit her, he found Gilbert, bleeding, his neck was already cut.
"From that, I can say that the crime was committed on the span the water hit her face and her discovering the crime. And, that's just a matter of second to be honest. No man can do that kind of job, murder, in matter of seconds. Unless he used some trick." I said. Jordan's face were dimmed as he looked at me. His jaws clench every time he heard me say a thing about the crime.
"The tricked you use that time is very simple. You just need an umbrella to do the deed. How? Well, by attaching some sharp weapon, probably knife on the umbrella skeleton, with the blade slightly extended, and rotating the umbrella on your hands." I said. I saw his fist clenched upon hearing my revelation to his crime.
"I-Is it true, Jordan?" Jonathan asked. Jordan didn't answer. He just throw dagger looks upon me.
"I will demonstrate to you." I said. I took an umbrella from one of them. Then, I attached a pen on one of the skeleton and extended it a little bit for it's point to be extended further. And then, I rotate the umbrella on my hands.
"See! That's how he committed it. The pen is the knife attached to the umbrella. And since the blade was extended a little, it can be used to slice cut something in the most subtle way possible. And by rotating the umbrella, it can cut anything it will pass through. And knowing the height difference, he can easily slit Gilbert's neck open. That's also why there was water that came to our witness' face. It was caused by the motion of the umbrella." I said. I heard there gasps and they all look at their teammate, who is still silent.
"Brilliant!" Silver said. But the show isn't finished yet.
"I can say the umbrella he used is still in his possession. I can also say he killed him because of the position he wants, the captain ball spot. He knew that the spot will likely to be given to Gilbert. The only thing he can do is to kill the only person hindrance to his dream to be the captain ball." I said.
"Is this true Jordan?!" Jonathan yelled. Jordan keep silent. And then, he laughed, a very horrifying and terrible laugh. Laugh of a madman.
"However pretty and brilliant your expkanation and ideas you have, as long as you don't have evidence to support your claim, you don't have a case. Show me your evidence that I'm the one who committed the crime!" he said, testing me. A smirk plastered on his face.
"The witness said that she saw the shoes of the man in front of her, and it was black." I said. Jordan's laugh echoed in the room.
"See? I don't have any black shoes on! You cannot prove it was me." he said, laughing and mocking me.
"I'm not finished yet. Let me finish first." I said. His laughing stopped as he look at me with confusion.
"W-What?" he asked.
"The witness saw a pair of black shoes. But take note, that time, she saw the shoes under the rain. And surely, the shoes she saw were wet. Now, let me pour some water on your shoe, and let's see if it will turn black. If it not, then you're innocent. But if yes..." I took the bottle of water on my desk and immediately throw some water on Jordan's shoes. I smirked upon seeing how the dark blue color turned to black.
"Checkmate."
