KODA'S POV
I pulled Maddie close but frowned sleepily when I realized how soft she felt.
I was really confused as I slowly opened my eyes and let them adjust to the darkness and looked down, expecting to see my girl, but I was holding her pillow.
What?
I looked around and noticed the dim light of the fireplace, the fire was still ablaze and Maddie was sitting on the ground with her back to the sofa.
She'd pulled her knees up and was resting her arms and chin on them, looking into the flames.
I climbed out of bed and lightly walked over to her, but she heard my movements and looked up.
My heart broke when I saw tears in her eyes and quickened my pace.
"Hey, what's wrong?" I whispered as I sat down opposite her on the rug "Did you have another nightmare?"
