An hour before the exam, Twilight, who was busy studying, paused at the ding of her phone. Her heart skipped a beat when she saw the message was from Eric.
~Let me know once you're done with your exam. I'll come pick you up.~
Twilight snorted, a small smile appearing on her lips, but it quickly faded as she cleared her throat before replying.
~Why? Where are you taking me to?~
The three bouncing dots appeared instantly—Eric was typing.
~Where else? My place of course.~
Twilight nearly choked on her saliva. Was he serious right now?
~Hold up, Mr. Alpha. Don't you think you are moving too fast?~
He had all the traits she wanted in a man, the kind of personality she admired. There was definitely something growing between them, especially after her time in the hospital, where he had visited her often. But still… she was still trying to accept that she had an Alpha as a mate. That she might have to step into the werewolf world.
She didn’t even know much about him.
~Too fast? Do you want me to court you like a human.~
Twilight nearly giggled, heat creeping onto her cheeks. She cleared her throat, steadying herself. She shouldn’t be grinning—it was just a message.
~What is wrong with that? I've been living with humans my whole life~
She bit her lip, waiting for his response, but instead of a text, her phone started ringing. She sat up, surprised.
“Why is he calling?” she mumbled.
Taking a deep breath, she picked up.
“Hey,” his deep voice rumbled through the speaker.
“I have an exam in less than an hour, Mr. Eric. You’re a big distraction,” Twilight said.
Eric snorted on the other end. “I guess that means you’re already falling for me.”
Twilight pressed her lips together at his words, but his voice soon turned serious.
“Remember what I told you about Professor Lucian?”
“Yeah, I do. He scares me. I knew what he was the moment he stepped into the class, but I stayed quiet since my scent is low enough for him to mistake me for a human,” Twilight muttered.
“He’s not a bad person. Soon, I’ll introduce you to him,” Eric assured.
“Do you have to? I think we should fix us first before letting anyone else know,” Twilight suggested.
Eric stayed quiet for a moment before speaking again.
“Courting like a human. Alright, Sparkles, I’ll give you time. We’ll take things slow.”
A warm smile spread across her lips, but it quickly faded when she saw Becca stepping into the classroom.
“Thanks… I have to go,” she said and immediately ended the call before Becca reached her.
Becca folded her arms, her expression one of pure frustration.
“You b***h,” she snapped.
Twilight sighed. “I can explain—”
“Explain what, Twilight?!” Becca cut in sharply. “How you didn’t show up to my birthday party? How Martin didn’t show up either, leaving me looking like a joke in front of everyone? I’ve never been so embarrassed in my entire life—and thanks to you, that happened!”
“For once, can’t you stop being so selfish?” For the first time, Twilight raised her voice at Becca. “You have no idea what happened to me, and you don’t even care.”
“You’re right. I don’t care!” Becca snapped. “We planned my party for weeks, and you just didn’t show up!”
Twilight scoffed in disbelief. She had expected this reaction, but deep down, she had hoped Becca would care about her—just a little. But Becca had always been the type to get what she wanted, no matter the circumstances.
“I’m heading to class,” Twilight said, packing her stuff and walking past Becca, whose lips parted in shock.
Twilight suddenly halted and turned to face her.
“And Becca,” she said.
Becca turned, her expression still twisted in anger.
“Maybe it’s time you stop treating people like they exist just to serve you.”
Becca’s eyes widened, her lips parting in stunned silence as she watched Twilight walk away.
“Oh my God. What is wrong with everybody?” Becca muttered.
*******
Back in the classroom, students were settling in for the exam, but Ethan noticed someone was missing—Martin. His seat was empty, and that worried him.
Was he okay?
Ethan pulled out his phone, recalling the message Martin had sent him earlier, asking him to meet him at the admin block. But Ethan hadn’t gone—he had been too busy dealing with the emotional turmoil of his growing connection to Lucian.
He hesitated, then typed out a message.
~Hey, where are you, the exam is about to start~
Ethan stared at the message, hesitating and after a moment, he decided to clear the message and kept his phone.
Later.
The exam had started, and all the students were focused on their papers. The air was tense—some chewed on their pens, others stared at the ceiling in frustration.
Twilight, seated behind Ethan, found her gaze drifting to him. As expected, he was answering the questions effortlessly. He was the best, after all.
She knew about the bond between Lucian and Ethan and wondered how this human was coping with being tied to a Lycan.
Becca, on the other hand, rushed through her paper, answering what she could and guessing the rest, leaving the theory section blank. When their eyes met, she shot Twilight a glare.
As soon as Becca was done, she stood, submitted her paper, and strutted out of the room.
Not long after, Ethan finished before time was up. Confident and unbothered, he stood and submitted his sheet. The supervisor gave him a small smile as he left.
“You have twenty minutes left, people,” the supervisor’s voice trailed off behind Ethan.
Out in the hallway, Ethan spotted Jericho talking to a familiar figure—Charlie. Wow, he hadn’t seen her since that party.
“Ethan?” Charlie’s face lit up with a bright smile at the sight of him. Ethan, unsure how to respond, simply gave her a small nod in acknowledgment.
“It’s been a while. How have you been, pretty boy?” Charlie asked, her usual badass aura intact. She wore a black tank top, ripped jeans, and dark makeup, with piercings on her nose and lower lip that only added to her edgy look.
“I’m fine, thank you,” Ethan replied, then turned to Jericho, who had a cigar dangling from the side of his lips.
“What’s up?” Jericho asked, exhaling a curl of smoke. "How have you been?"
“I'm good." Ethan reolied. "Well, uh… I was just wondering if you know why Martin isn’t in school today?”
Jericho scoffed, looking away. His expression shifted, darkening slightly before his eyes met Ethan’s again.
“You seriously don’t know what’s going on, huh?”
“Hey, Jerry,” Charlie whispered, trying to stop him, but he ignored her.
“Martin’s been going crazy about you. He gave you all the signs, and yet you were too slow to catch on.”
“Jerry…” Charlie whispered again, while Ethan felt the words hit like a blow.
Jericho’s voice turned cold. “You could’ve just warned him, but instead, you let him see you—”
“Jerry!” Charlie cut in sharply, this time loud enough to make him stop before he could say more.
Jericho sighed, then turned to Charlie, his gaze shifting. “I’ll see you around, babe.” With that, he walked away.
“Wh—what was he talking about?” Ethan asked, looking at Charlie.
Charlie met his gaze and shrugged. “Oh… it’s nothing. Just ignore him.” Then, she quickly changed the subject. “I never got the chance to apologize for what I did at the party. It was impulsive of me. That’s just how I am, but I’m sorry if it upset you.”
Ethan gave her a small smile. “It’s alright. We’re cool.”
“Cool,” Charlie echoed with a playful grin, and they both chuckled. She had always been the type to lighten the mood, no matter the situation.
“Don’t worry about Martin,” she added. “He just needed some space to clear his head. He’ll be back soon. As for his exams and academics, he has everything under control. His father is a tycoon, after all.”
Ethan nodded slowly, his voice quieter. “Was it because of me?”
Charlie didn’t answer directly—she just gave him a knowing smile. Then, she gently tapped his shoulder.
“I’ll see you around, pretty boy.”
As she walked away, Ethan sighed and leaned against the nearby wall. His gaze dropped to the floor.
“I can’t believe he was into me this whole time, acting like just a friend.”
His fingers curled slightly, a mix of emotions swirling inside him.
“I guess it’s best we stay apart and that he is not around for now.”

LUCIAN
With another issue unsettling his pack affairs, all Lucian wanted to do was travel over there and kill them all—every last one of them.
His absence from the pack was attracting enemies, ones slowly clawing their way in, searching for any hint of weakness.
First, it was the business issue. Now, they were using something far more dangerous—betrayal from within.
His Beta had been keeping him informed about the situation back home, but it was worse than he expected. There were whispers of discontent among the ranks, with some of his trusted warriors beginning to doubt his rule. A select few—foolish, power-hungry, and blind—were already making moves against him, emboldened by the belief that his focus on the human world made him weak.
Lucian scoffed. Weak?
Oh, they would see just how weak he was when he fished them out and ripped their still-beating hearts from their chests.
A knock sounded on his door, but before he could give permission, the person opened the office door and stepped in.
Lucian sighed, leaning back in his seat.
“Dummy,” he mumbled, spreading his palms. “How may I help you?”
Becca pouted as she stepped forward, sitting before him.
“I'm sad,” she croaked, folding her arms. “I feel like everyone is against me.”
Lucian decided to play along, needing a distraction from the weight of the problems on his shoulders. This little dummy might just be the perfect one.
“Tell me about it,” he replied, surprising Becca.
Her pout deepened.
“Twilight doesn’t seem to be my friend anymore, and you, on the other hand, won’t even give me a chance… even after I sent your nephew to persuade you.”
Lucian’s eyes narrowed, his hearing sharpening with sudden interest.
“Nephew?”
“Yes, your nephew, Ethan Wave. I asked him to convince you to give me a chance since you both live together… but it seems he never even mentioned it to you.”
Lucian stayed silent for a moment, his gaze darkening as his fingers began to drum on the desk.
“He said I’m his uncle?” he asked, his voice low and edged with something dangerous.
“Yes… he said you were adopted.”
Lucian’s fingers stilled, his sharp eyes locked onto a fixed point in space. Just how far would his little mate go to test his limits?
Uncle.
Adopted Uncle.
A low snort escaped his lips as he adjusted his tie, his body suddenly feeling too hot for the office.
“Bring him over,” Lucian demanded, his voice cold.
Becca’s brow arched.
“What?”
“Bring me Ethan Wave.”
Becca scoffed, crossing her arms with a snobby glare. It seemed she had only come to confirm if Ethan was truly living with him.
“Why should I? Why should I obey you? You haven't even given me my answer.”
Lucian's eyes glinted dangerously as he leaned forward, his voice dropping to a seductive murmur.
“Bring Ethan Wave in here… and I'll kiss you.”
