The Hungry Lions

Lilian's POV

" Hungry lions competition "

Hungry what?

We were all shocked, silent for a few seconds.

Is he a Romanian old king or what?

That made him smile a little.

" I think you misunderstood something, I didn't mean a real fighting, we've actually put the lions to sleep "

" Then how are we going to fight with them ?"

Some girl asked, I'm glad she did.

" Good question! You don't have to fight, the mission is quite easy"

" There's a room with two doors, all you have to do is, go from the first door to the other door, there will be three sleeping lions on the room"

He said then continues

" It's for filtering purposes"

Filtering?

" Whew, that's easy then"

The girl said, But somehow I feel something bad, very bad, will happen.

" Sure you should not wake up the lions or this will be your funeral, they didn't eat for five days "

We all went to the first room location.

It was as he said, a white door in front of us.

I don't want to go there.

" The only rule that you have to know is to get through Lion's room then ring the bell on the safe room after you go there"

The king said calmly like it's an easy mission.

" I'll go first"

A blonde beautiful girl said pushing the other girls and going to the door.

" If you that confident, then close the door after you, please"

He said then went to sit on his big chair.

The girl opened the door and went inside after closing the door.

We couldn't hear anything from outside so I kept looking at the castle decoration.

It's so neat and beautiful, the walls are creamy-white with gold.

The furniture is so calming and warm.

I was smiling looking at the decoration than by mistake.

I looked at King Elias.

He was looking at me.

That made me freeze for a moment, my smile disappeared.

I looked away quickly before I stare at him more than that.

After a few minutes, we heard a loud smash.

I put my hands on my mouth, no! She's alive, right?

After that, we heard the bell ringing.

" Oh my god, I'm so happy"

I said touching my knees breathing, she made it safe.

" Hahahaha, Oh My, you're so happy? You're so stupid you don't even know what she did right now "

I heard the king laughing loudly, it's my first time hearing him laugh like that.

Why is he laughing at me?

" She threw the table from the safe room to the lions' room, that's mean, the lions are awake right now"

He said and I was shocked, why anyone would do something like that?

She wants us dead !!

If she wants to win, marry this psychopath, what does that have to do with us! play dirty like that!

" Emilia that selfish !"

" She wants to kill us! "

" I thought she was my friend "

The girls started crying in fear, the girl mocked me earlier because my clothes looks so sad.

" Competition getting interesting "

The king said again looking at the maids that feed him.

I looked at him angrily, he was smiling so happy.

That makes me want to win, just to kill him.

" Who's next"

He suddenly said non of us spoke.

His smile begins to fade.

" You don't have to continue the competition if you want, I can always send your corpses to your families earlier "

His face, the shinny and beautiful face starts to look so evil, dark.

"I, I'll do it my lord"

A girl with a blue dress said and he allows her to.

She was shaking, terrified.

C'mon Lilian think, what will make the lions sleep again?

How can we get to the safe room unharmed!

The girl grabbed the door handle, I was shaking with her.

I don't want her to die.

I don't want anyone to die!

She went inside closing the door after her.

I started to pray, resting my head against the wall.

After three seconds I heard a roar, a loud scream.

The girls started to scream and jump from fear, I heard the king chuckle.

He was so satisfied that one of us got killed.

Is he even a human!

He is enjoying this.

Enjoying killing.

A girl after a girl went inside, nothing but screams that we kept hearing.

No sign of another ringing bell.

" I'll run "

A girl said taking off her heels, cutting her dress open.

I grabbed her arm before she go inside.

" Don't! That way they will attack you faster, you have to remain calm and steady "

" Go for yourself then! "

She pushed me away from the door then went inside running.

Her eyes were filled with horror like she's already seeing her death.

We didn't hear the bell ringing either.

But suddenly I remembered something!

Abundance overcomes courage.

Maybe, just maybe, if we go together, the lions will leave us alone!

They won't attack us as a group!

They like an easy target!

A girl was ready to go inside and I grabbed her shoulder.

" Hey, do you want to die? Why are you going? "

I asked her and she looked at me in mockery.

" I know you didn't like my wearing earlier, tried to bully me but I forgive you, I want to be your friend, what's your name? "

I asked and she nervously laughed.

" Why should I tell my name to a poor thing like you! We're all going to die anyway "

" No you don't, I have a plan "

I said then looked at the other girls, glanced over the king who was watching me smirking a little.

" If we'll go inside, all as one! , They won't attack us, we can do it! "

I raised my voice for everyone to hear.

He didn't put a rule to go against going together!

We will put the rules on!

" Why should I trust you! My friend betrayed me earlier "

" Yes, you will get us killed! "

" They will attack some of us while you running for your life, you liar! "

" The king won't allow that"

They kept shouting at me, I closed my eyes and screamed.

" The king didn't put any rules go against going together! "

I breathed a little then looked at his shining eyes that were staring at me.

" I'm I, right? "

I asked him and he put his hand under his chin.

" You're right, you're free to go together or alone "

He calmly said and the girls started to push each other to remain in between the line that they draw.

I was at the beginning so I tried to control my trembling hand, then I opened the door.

The room with filled with blood scent, animals scent.

It was so dark I couldn't see anything more than the white door on the other side.

The girls behind me were pushing me, I tried to remain calm, not looking at any side.

I'm hearing the lions moaning.

Suddenly the girl behind me fell down.

" Ouch, stupid dress, This dirty corpse made me fall"

I started to hear a lion's roar, the other girls were pushing me going to the other door.

" Hey grab my arm quickly"

I said trying to help the girl, she was screaming.

" I can't, they're pushing me! The floor is too slippery from blood! "

She panicked, I almost fall too.

" C'MON FAST! "

I screamed and I started to hear many rings on the bell.

There are no more girls in the lions' room but us.

She was finally on her feet and we run fast as we could.

We went safely to the other room closing the door behind us.

The lions were behind us, I can't believe we made it!

I was trying to catch my breath when I rang the bell.

Suddenly I saw a hand in front of my eyes.

" You asked me about my name ?"

I raised my head and saw the girl that I helped earlier.

" My name is Katie, I'll be happy to have a friend like you"

She said and I grabbed her hand smiling.

" And I'm Lilian, I'm happy to be your friend too"

The other girls were hitting the girl that was trying to kill us.

" Your clothes are a mess "

Katie told me laughing, I looked at my clothes, they're full of blood.

" Yours too "

I laughed with her and suddenly the lion's door opens, The King and his guards went through unharmed.

He walked and stood in front of me.

Staring at my bloody hands and clothes.

" Is this your blood? "

He asked in a deep voice.

In a caring voice.

Like he actually cares for me.

" No my lord "

I made it a short answer, then he ignored me and stood in the middle of the room.

" The filtering was successful, congratulations, you're the 26 girls remaining "

He said then started clapping with his guards, some girls started to clap and cheer too.

26 girls from 70 girls !!

44 girls got killed for his enjoyment!

I don't know what's wrong with his mind.

" Every two of you will share a room inside my castle, you will have to rest to be ready for the next competition after three days "

He said and looked at me again.

Why does he keep looking at me?

" The next competition will be "

I grabbed my hands to my chest, started to pray.

" Singing competition "

He said and I breathed freely again, some girls were happy and some were not.

" Happy ?"

Suddenly Through all the noisy room, I heard his creepy whisper in my left ear.

" It's just the beginning "
