A few months had passed after I was employed by the company. Jared, the ruthless billionaire CEO of Grade B productions, stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling windows of his office, gazing out at the breathtaking view of the city skyline. His mind, however, was not on the stunning vista, but on a more pressing concern: Miss Higgins, the newly employed cleaner who seemed to be causing more problems than she was solving.
Jared had always taken pride in his ability to spot talent and potential in people. So, when the company had hired Miss Higgins, he had expected her to be a diligent and hardworking addition to his team. Instead, she had turned out to be a constant thorn in his side.
At first, it was just little things like the improper way she mops his office, papers would go missing or his favourite pen would disappear. Jared had written it off as mere forgetfulness or carelessness. But as the days went by, the incidents grew more frequent and more severe. His schedule would be rearranged, or his meetings would be interrupted by strange noises or distractions. He had tried to brush it off as coincidence, but deep down, he knew that something was amiss.
"Who's there?". The sharpness in his voice arose at the sight of a shadow lingering around the entrance of his office. He walked from the windows to the door quietly.
He heard a squeak from the entrance, he then hastened his footsteps. He wasn't surprised when his eyes caught the sight of the person who was hiding behind the door. It was Lotti.
"What is your problem?".
"What is your problem too?"
"I caught you hiding behind my door. How is that my problem?"
"You know nothing. Really". She said as she walked out of his sight, a sly grin spreading across her face. He then realized the truth: she was sabotaging him.
Determined to put an end to her antics, Jared called for his HR manager, Mrs. Thompson, to arrange a meeting with Miss Higgins Lotti. He walked back to his office and resumed staring at the city skyline. As he waited for her to arrive, he couldn't help but wonder what had driven Lotti to behave in such a manner. Was she seeking revenge for some perceived slight? Or was she simply a troubled individual who took pleasure in causing chaos?
When Lotti arrived, Jared was taken aback by her nonchalant demeanour. She sauntered into the room, a look of boredom etched on her face and plopped herself down in the chair opposite Jared's desk.
"So, Miss Higgins Lotti". Jared began, trying to keep his tone neutral, "I've been made aware of some... irregularities in your work. Papers going missing, schedules being rearranged... Can you explain to me what's going on?"
She shrugged, her expression unchanging. "I don't know what you're talking about, Mr. Jared".
Jared's eyes narrowed. "Don't play dumb with me Sly Fox. I have evidence. And even if I didn't, I know that you're not as incompetent as you seem. You're doing this on purpose, aren't you?"
For a moment, Jared thought he saw a flicker of something in Miss Higgins' eyes - a spark of defiance, perhaps, or a glimmer of guilt. But it was quickly extinguished, replaced by a mask of innocence.
"I don't know what you're insinuating, Sir", she said, her voice dripping with sweetness, "but I assure you, I'm just trying to do my job to the best of my ability".
Jared sighed, rubbing his temples. He had a headache coming on, and he knew that this conversation was far from over.
"Miss Higgins". He said, his voice firm but controlled, "I'm afraid I'm going to have to let you go. Your... antics have made it clear that you're not a good fit for this company".
Her expressions didn't change, but Jared could sense a shift in her demeanour. A subtle tension crept into her shoulders, and her eyes seemed to gleam with a malevolent light.
"I don't think so", she said, her voice low and husky, "I think I'll be staying right here, where I can take care of things".
His eyes snapped up, his heart racing with a growing sense of unease. What did she mean by that? And what exactly did she plan to do?
As he watched her saunter out of his office, a sly smile spreading across her face, Jared knew that he was in for a fight. She was not going to go quietly into the night, and Jared was about to find himself amid a battle for control.
But Jared was not one to back down from a challenge. He had built his business empire from scratch, using his wit, charm, and determination to overcome every obstacle in his path. And he was not about to let some rogue cleaner undermine his authority.
As he picked up the phone to call the head of the security team, Jared's mind was already racing with strategies. He was ready for Miss Higgins, and he would stop at nothing to protect his business and his reputation. While he waited for his security team to arrive, Jared couldn't shake the feeling that he was in over his head. She was not just any ordinary cleaner, and he had a growing sense that she was just the tip of a very sinister iceberg.
