When Eyes Speak

*Chapter Twelve – When Eyes Speak* Eliana didn’t believe in perfect moments. But this one... this one came close. It was Saturday afternoon, and the library was almost empty. Rain tapped softly against the tall windows, casting golden light across the wooden tables. Kai sat across from her, one leg bouncing restlessly under the table, eyes fixed on her not the book she was pretending to read. She felt his gaze before she met it. “What?” she asked, fighting a smile. “You scrunch your nose when you’re pretending to concentrate,” he said, eyes dancing. “I do not.” “You do. It’s cute.” Eliana rolled her eyes, but her cheeks betrayed her. Warm. Too warm. “Stop looking at me like that,” she mumbled. “Like what?” “Like you’re writing poetry with your eyes.” He leaned in, elbows on the table. “Maybe I am.” Her breath hitched. She looked down at her book but couldn’t see a single word. “Kai…” “Yes?” “I don’t want to be someone’s project.” “You’re not.” “Then what am I?” He was quiet for a long second. Then he whispered, “You’re the first song I don’t want to finish. I just want to keep writing you.” Her walls cracked just a little. Just enough for him to step closer. Outside, the rain kept falling. But inside? Something was blooming.
