The first Note

*Chapter Four — The First Note* It started with a single message. *“Meet me at the old auditorium. Midnight.”* No name. No explanation. Just that. And somehow, Eliana knew it was from Kai. The rain had stopped, but the city remained quiet ,like it was holding its breath. The auditorium was old, forgotten by the world but never by them. It was where they first met, where their sound first happened, raw and imperfect. Beautiful. She pushed the heavy doors open. Inside, the dark welcomed her like a memory. And there he was ,sitting at the broken piano on stage, the only light falling across his hands. Eliana stepped closer, heartbeat rising with every step. “You’re dramatic, you know that?” Kai didn’t turn. “It’s part of the charm.” She climbed the steps to the stage, slowly. “What is this?” He looked up. “A beginning.” And he played. Not a full song. Just a note. Then another. Hesitant at first. Like he was relearning a language he once spoke fluently. Eliana closed her eyes, letting the sound find her. It wasn’t perfect. But it was honest. Like them. He stopped playing. “You said you didn’t want to disappear,” Kai said. “Neither do I. But I will if I keep pretending I don’t care.” She opened her eyes. “I care, Eliana.” Silence. Then she walked over, sat beside him on the piano bench, and placed her hand over his. “I know.” And without needing a plan or a perfect moment, they began to write again. Not just music. But something real.
