“Curtis, get to the car, will you?” Janet’s voice floated in from outside as I lay sprawled on the couch, staring up at the ceiling blankly. “What about Momma?” I heard my baby’s tiny voice raise a question. “I'll go get her,” Janet replied, her footsteps growing louder as she approached the wide-open door. I could sense her presence even without looking in her direction. She stood, waiting patiently beside the couch. “Hey there, princess,” she let out softly. “It’s time to go.
